Every man and woman who has laid down their life for there country and what they believe in, since time began until the end of time, are "gallant warriors" in my eyes.
The Spartans had a very interesting war culture, as well as the Mongols and Genghis Khan.
Genghis Khan achieved much in his life:
1. He united the Mongol tribes and founded the Mongol Empire
2. He made the Mongol Empire the largest contiguous empire in world history.
3. He thought leaders should follow the Yasa, and to refrain from surrounding themselves with wealth and pleasure.
Of course his enemies thought he was a demon, if he were nice he would not have achieved as much as he did for his country and his people.

those ladies and gentlemen who have, are and will continue to lay their lives on the line every day they go to work. these would include but are not limited to the military, law enforcement, firefighters, medical profession. remembering that all give some and some give all to preserve our freedoms and lives each deserves to be called a gallant warrior.

or the Germans.
The Germans in WW1 managed to fight off the combined armies of France, Russia, the British empire, and aided in the fight against Italy. Germany did this while blockaded, and forced to turn inward for supplies. Only the arrival of the US turned the tide against Germany, who in 1917 barely missed winning the war. What's often forgotten is that the Germans managed to defend their colonies as well.
Germany managed to rebuild and launch another massive war in 1939. Here they defeated Poland, France, Belgium, Denmark, numerous Balkan nations, and the Netherlands; before they finally lost a campaign (the battle of Britain). It took the combined man/industrial power of the United States, Russia, England with commenwelths and colonies) and escaped French and Polish troops to finally defeat them.
[obviously goals aren't taken into account here^]
Even before the world wars Prussia, the kingdom that was to unite Germany, pulled off some amazing victories. In the 7 years war, Prussia defeated France, Russia and Austria at the same time; albeit with some luck. Prussia managed to defeat Denmark, and later Austria in major wars. Only afew years later Prussia, with the backing of the other German states, embarassed France in a war of near total defeat that last 2 years (1870-1871).

The Few
Or as they are otherwise known, the pilots of the RAF squadrons during The Battle of Britain,
whether they were British, Polish, Canadian, Australian, New Zealanders or others
Never before (or since) have so many, owed so much to so few...as Mr C put it.
