7.5*125 = 937.5 and 8*125 = 1000

so 7.5/8 = 937.5/1000 = 0.9375

I did it without using a calculator

Assuming you can do long division [some of the answers assume you cannot because you asked how to do this manually], then I will assume you can do "short division" and do some short division in your head *and* that you know the basic properties of arithmetic.

Given these assumptions, your question becomes 'is there an easy way to divide numbers?'

An good answer for this type of problem is to make the division easier by:
> finding a number N that is near the value of the numerator and
> find a smaller number S to subtract from N so that the difference is the original value
> then divide the two numbers, S and N, by the denominator to get the answer.

This is how it would work for this example:

7.5/8 = (8-0.5)/8 = 8/8 - 0.5/8 = 1 - [1/2]/8 and 1/2 divided by 8 = 1/16.

this may not seem easier [yet] but notice that
1/2 = 0.5 and half of that is
1/4 = 0.25
1/8 = 0.125, and finally
1/16 = 0.0625

SO, subtract the 0.0625 from 1 (can be done mentally with some care) to get 0.9375.

****
Another easy way also depends on the numbers involved. In this case, note that 8 = 2*2*2
So?
This means you can do simple divisions to the numerator (may be easy or not) and get the answer directly, i.e.,
7.5/2 = 3.75;
3.75/2 = 1.875, and
1.875/2 = 0.9375

****
Finally, note that 8 * 10 = 80 and 80 / 4 = 80/(2*2) = 20 and 20 * 5 = 100. This means you can do the same multiplications and divisions to the numerator (may be easy or not) and get the answer.

****
extra note:
The easy way to add or subtract fractions is to note that you want each pair of digits to add up to 9 except the last pair should add up to 10.
In this case, to add up the digits of the fraction of 0.0625 to 9 the numbers would be 9, 3, 7, and the last pair to add to 10 would be a 5.

This is simple:
7.5/8 = 15/16 if you multiply numerator
and denominator by 2.
15/16 = 1 - 1/16.
Now calculate 1/16 manually:
1/4 = .25
Keep dividing by 2:
1/8 = .125
so
1/16 = .0625.
So
7.5/8 = .9375
Done!

Its called long division.

8 √ 7.5

You need to get rid of the decimal. So multiply 7.5 by 10 and place a decimal point in the awnser

.
8√ 75

How many times does 8 go into 75? 9 times:

.9
8 √75
__ -72__
30 (add a zero and keep long dividing)

.93
8 √030

Well, 7.5/8 is .5/8 or 1/16 less than 1. And, 1/16 equals .625, so the answer is 9.375. Notice you can generate .625 by knowing that 16 and 625 are both fourth powers, of 2 and 5.

7.5/8 = ?

First we multiply this by 10 and put a decimal point in the result. Thus we have

75/8 = 0.....?

75 divided by 8 gives us 9 as the quotient and 3 as the remainder. ( times 8 is 72 and 75 minus 72 is 3)

So, we write 0.9...

Now we add another zero to the right of 3. That means we have 30.

30 divided by 8 gives us 3 as quotient and 6 as remainder.

So, we write 0.93...

Ad another zero to 6. We have 60.

60 divided by 8 gives us 7 as quotient and 4 as remainder.

60 / 8 = 7...

We write 0.937..

We add another 0 to 4 and get 40. When we divide by 8, we get 5 as the quotient and 0 as remainder.

So, our value is 0.9375

First add a few zeros onto the 7.5 to make it easier,
then just do normal division.
Start with : 8 ) 7.5000.

(1) 8 into 7 goes 0, and carry 7. (Answer so far = 0)
(2) Now put the decimal point in. (Answer so far = 0.)
(3) 8 into 75 goes 9, and carry 3. (Answer so far = 0.9)
(4) 8 into 30 goes 3, and carry 6. (Answer so far = 0.93)
(5) 8 into 60 goes 7, and carry 4. (Answer so far = 0.937)
(6) 8 into 40 goes 5, exactly. Final answer = 0.9375.

divide as normally you do but place decimal in the quotient whenever you are going beyond the decimal & keep adding zeros at the end since
7.5=7.50000000

Therefore 7.5/8
=.9375
