Warwick was a very smart man indeed. The simple answer is NO. There is no key that allows you to recover files and that's it. When a file is sent to the recycle bin, it's not deleted at all. This is a little game Microsoft plays with people, hoping that they will be impressed by Microsoft magic. The file is simply removed from one folder to another (the recycle bin). Not only is it still on your computer, it also uses the same amount of disk space it used before it was (sic) deleted. The only way you can regain valuable disk space is to remove files from the recycle bin, but once you do so, these files are very hard to get back. Windows marks the file as deleted (but it still isn't) and as you continue to use your computer, all or parts of that deleted file may be overwritten. The more you use your machine after deleting a file, the harder it becomes to recover. Even so, the FBI and the IRA have recovered files many years old. The only successful way to recover a file is with a file recovery program (mentioned by others) and the only way to guarantee it's gone for good is by using a program that overwrites deleted files with 0's and 1's , making it almost impossible to recover. Did I say "almost". You bet I did!

Yes, no and maybe.

When a file is deleted under Windows, it is first moved to the Recycle Bin. It sets there until either the Recycle Bin is emptied, or it gets too full. Then the oldest items are deleted to make room for the newer stuff.

When it leaves the Recycle Bin, the file itself is not actually gone. Windows just deletes the name of the file, and marks the space that it occupies as "free space". Eventually that space will be reused. Until then, the file sets there in "limbo". It is actually still on the hard drive, but Windows has nothing to tell it where to find the file.

There are recovery programs which are able to go into a hard drive, look at it sector by sector, and find those "limbo" files. It then creates a new directory to point to them so that Windows is able to see them again.

So, if you have a recovery software (and it is not a standard part of Windows) and you run it soon enough after a file has been deleted, it is possible to recover a deleted file.

No,

In the movies and on TV you can do anything remember the movie 'Hackers?'

And pigs can fly.

You need a special program if you can not find the file in the recycle bin.

There are programs to recover files but their type of software would be very expensvie. Try this free alternative Recuva software http://www.snapdrive.net/files/266187/Recuva.zip
