Yesterday, in the UK, the Liberal Democrats released details of their new tax plan. They would decrease income tax, and introduce new 'green' taxes on fuel and flights.

These new taxes would pay for the reduction in income tax, but surely this would require people to keep poluting and paying the taxes. If people stopped using their cars, and flying then there would be no money in the pot, and our income tax would go back up!

So the Liberal Democrats have given us a decision to make. Do we want a country paid for by pollution? I say no!

Hi Jupiter. Can you edit your response to tell me how I misconstrued the policy.

And I'm not liberal bashing.... If it had been the green party that came with with this apparently ineffective plan I would've asked the same question.

Where does the money come from if people stop polluting???

things like this are pointless. If you are going to make green taxes they should be designed so that the money made from those taxes are put back in to helping the environment by building renewable energy schemes etc. All this is doing is changing one tax for another and not really helping the environment at all, a few quid on the price of a flight isn't going to put businesses flying around the world because they spend thousands on these flights as it is, so what difference will £10 make?

"Liberals", "Liberals democrats", "the libs".. Every time I read that I think "oh boy, here we go again".

And it looks like I'm right, yet again! Another person misconstruing something that could potentially be good as the greatest evil in existence due to their own partisan biases.

I believe any sort of 'pollution' tax is just another stealth tax.

Anyway if we all stopped driving, the revenue from the speed camera stealth tax would dry up causing a shut down of the police force and anarchy.

ok im stretching it a bit but ive had enough of bloody stealth taxes!

No a tax will not solve the problem because it does nothing to eliminate the problem nor is it intended too. All it will do is give the politicians more money to spend..

Environmental taxes are not spent for environmental protection but go to the Treasury of the government that has discretion on how to spend the funds.

You need to run those liberal Democrats out. Apparently, they are a worldwide plague.

No, but they'll sure give this spendthrift Government a lot more money to throw away.
