Great answer, Judy!

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Mushrooms tend to appear when the weather is warm and moist. they are the "flower" of the underground fungus and they carry spores, the "seeds" of the fungus.

If you have a problem with the mushrooms, pick them and throw them away. wear gloves and put 'em in a plastic bag and send them with your trash.. as the weather dries out, you'll see less and less and eventually you won't see them at all.

Round up won't work, it only works on green plants. Mushrooms are the "fruits" of a large mycelium underground network that likely extends for several square metres. It feeds on dead organic matter like buried wood, dead grass roots, dead tree roots and is very important in the decomposing cycle.

The mycelium will return nutrients to your grass and does no harm. If you don't like the look of the mushrooms, pick them. The mycelium usually only fruits for a week or two then stops.

Just leave them alone. They are doing no harm to your lawn. When the weather gets dryer they will disappear until the next wet season.

You don't need to kill them. It's a sign of highly-fertilized soil. Just knock the heads off with a broom. They will act like fertilizer. If you let them mature, they will shoot out spoors and leave black marks in the grass.
