While you will get decent advice online, I recommend that you take them to a store that deals with sports carts and memorabilia. There, you can request that someone appraise them. DO NOT leave them, DO NOT make a deal with them, and most of all, don't just give them away. You may have some pricey cards on your hands.

As for what you can do for yourself, I recommend going to a Borders or Barnes & Noble store and buy a magazine that lists the going prices for hockey cards. Make sure that the cards you are trying to identify are in there. They should be, but it never hurts to check before you buy them.

Don't let yourself be taken advantage of. There are hundreds of online appraisers that ALL will charge you a fee. Good luck.

When i was younger i used to be a huge fan/collector of hockey cards. They may not be the most wanted or famous when it comes to sports cards but they still will be worth some type of value. The value of the card depends on what type of card it is (ie. upper deck) or the player. For example a Hasek card is going to have more value then lets say jeff carter. Also based on the year of the card, they could be worth more money. Using Hasek as an example again, his rookie cards are/will be worth a good amount for a hockey card because he will go down as one of the best goalies ever, where as rookie cards of other players may not be worth as much. In my opinion, do some research on which cards have the most value , and keep those cause they maybe real valuable at some point in time, the others though id give away to charity if you do not want them, because the less fortunate would be glad to get something they can trade and collect, and would be put to much better use in the hands of those kids rather than in the garbage can.

Hockey cards are collectibles - try e-bay and sell them or have an add or find out if there is a collectors fair on in your area - but do not throw them out - some would love to have them - children from twelve up to ninety - they would love you for ever - talk to the Boys and Girls Clubs in your area and let them have them - they could generate something in exchange to help the kids

I know nothing about hockey cards but if you simply want to get rid of them, find a kid in your neighborhood to give them to rather than throwing them away. There is someone out there who will want them.

If you want invest some time and possibly make a buck or two, do some research into them. Beckett is the authority of cards. http://www.beckett.com/default.osi You can sell them individually or as a set on Ebay.

There are some hockey cards that if you keep them, they could be worth some money one day. I would keep a hole of them if I was you!
