keep blowing coils in my boat resiter keeps over heating?

boat now has points as i blew 2 elec.ings

There are 2 types of coils internal resistor & external resistor the resistor does get hot it will burn you,Check the voltage at the coil while running should be around 9v if it's12v than your resistor not working.You might be putting 12 volts to the wrong side of the coil.Or wrong coil?.Your wiring could be wrong for the points distribator.

Sounds like a timing issue. Check to make sure your distributor is assembled correctly. If the advance springs come off your timing can be messed up bad!
