New York :
Pizza 25 cents a slice (early 70's).
Gasoline sells for $1 a gallon, everyone freaked, the pumps only went to 99,9 cents a gallon because pump manufacturers though that gasoline would NEVER go for more than that, so they sold gas by the "Liter", talk about confusion.
"Wacky Packages" 20 cents, I bought them the other day for my son $1.75 (yea, they're BACK)
a 12 0z bottle of soda was 25 cents
The soda cases were filled with "Very fine" fruit drinks (remember them) ?
A bicycle might as well been as expensive as a car, I sometimes got a new bicycle but, most of us would peddle something that was thrown out to the garbage, and the other half of the bike was from parts in the garage. we did'nt have the "BMX" bikes with heavy spokes and shocks, most of our "EVIL KNEVAL" stunts left bent up wheels and a walk home.
someone would show up on the block with something cool, like a "whistle ring", or "Magic Snakes", The question would be "WOW where did get that"?, the answer was always "At the Candy store", at which point the entire block of kids would stampede into the candy store (the owner would go NUTS, 40 kids throwing Bicycles down on the sidewalk blocking the door in front) in a box on the counter was an inexpensive small toy that was "Rapidly" disappearing (The word was out), little jet fighters that launched off rubber bands, doing a huge loop, super balls, the stuff almost ALWAYS got, Lost, stuck in a tree, a roof, if it made it through the day, a teacher would take the toy the next day in school, cause everyone snuck them in. Kids would hang out on the street corners in HUGE groups, when have you seen that last ?
Our world must have been good (we thought it was), because everything has gone back "RETRO".

I can remember when i was a under age beer drinker (17) the price of beer was roughly 7and a half pence a pint making it 13 pints for a pound .Although this seems like happy days we couldn't afford more than 6 or seven pints . I used to laugh at my grandfather saying he used to go out get a bus go to the cinema ,dance ,a few drinks have a slap up supper and still have change out of half a crown (roughly a eighth off a English pound ).Just think what are kids will be telling their grandchildren .....i can remember when big macs was a culinary experience and only 50 pounds.

Those old skool bubble gum machines that had the metal sliding tab and for a penny you could get about 5-6 squares of gum....Yellows were the best. You always tried to trade the white ones out with your friends.
