Shakespeare, or the Bible, or maybe it was Jung, said, "You can't spend popularity."

I'd say it's definitely the more [and more expensive] presents.

It's been several decades since I gave anyone a birthday present. I might have bought a woman a fox coat once, but it might have been Christmas.

I'm not going to judge you as a person but i will judge the whole concept of believing that ones popularity is in parallel with how much people spend - because thats just crap - 1st of all there are more important things in life then popularity - I for one have gone through most of my school years with just a few really good friends - and I jerish that more then my popularity - i was never popular as such but i'm glad of that - there is more to life then popularity - 2ndly There have been times in life where I have recieved hand made gifts (no money involved what so ever) and i actually prefer it when people make me something it shows they have but thought into it - and 3rdly a birthday isn't about money its about celebrating your life - a birthday can be just as special as without any gifts what so ever

Never think about the monetary value of a gift that's given to you. Just cherish the thought and the friendship.
