My little one is 4 months on Sunday. Problem is he squirms when I give him his formula he tries to wriggle it out of his mouth and mucks around until 2 minutes later he takes it then drinks half. The only reason I can think of that he does this is he is eating 7teaspoons of cereal and 3/4 jar of fruit at 12 and half a jar of vegies for dinner and still having 5 bottles 200ml each day in 24 hours. Do you think he is weaning off a bottle. He also has started holding his cup of water and having little sips at lunch.

You have one hungry baby!!

My child was eating, almost this much, too. That's good. Taking rice before bed is great, too. Moms need to sleep too!

No, I don't think he's weaning himself off the bottle. I think maybe you should wait until he acts like he wants it. I think he's mucking around because he didn't particularly want this.

I fed my kids a reasonable baby food meal, and then offered them a bottle at the end. And before bed, I'd let them have another bottle (never in the crib).

You are SUCH a good mom. This little one is so lucky to have a mom concerned about everything in his life. Give him a sweet nuzzle for me.

Until a baby is a year old, he/she must have breast milk or formula. After 12 months, most babies can begin drinking whole cow's milk without trouble. If you are not going to continue breast feeding him then he will have to have formula. There is no other way for him to have the multitude of vitamins and nutrients he needs for proper growth and development. Baby foods alone do not contain adequate nutrition for a growing baby. Many babies will go from breast feeding to bottle feeding with no trouble at all. It is actually a rare baby who refuses to drink from any nipple if he is hungry. Some will fuss and balk at first, but when it is the only thing offered, a bottle nipple is better than nothing at all. You may have to experiment with which type of nipple he likes best, but he will take to one eventually. Until around 6 months, he still needs the same amount of milk (breast or formula) every day and if solids are introduced before then, they should only be in addition to his milk intake. Even when he is eating solids 3 meals a day he still needs breast milk or formula.

Keep doing the good work, mom. he's growing and getting a little attitude. Space apart his meals, so he'll be really really hungry and keep offering water as something to wash it all down. When he starts to play with it, just go and put it back, say" nope, baby's not hungry, oh, well. " He''ll hopefully understand that he can't play with that baba for his own entertainment, and he'll only fuss when he's really hungry for it. Until he starts his own regimin, you're just a "sensous-up ma",(If you haven't heard this one, My honey calls me sensous:{{sinceyouwas}}:sensous up,can ya get me a pop). Alternate the feedings like baba, veggies, half-baba for lunch, cereal for a snack, and a smorgasboard for dinner: without a baba, only water for dinner. And a baba for before bedtime. He still needs that formula, so just either up the ounces, or divide them throughout the day.
He is probably going thru a growth spurt. Babies get really "fussy" about food, it's weird. But in a few days, the size 3 pampers won't fit in the morning, and you'll be running out for a whole new package.
He's not weaning himself off of the bottle, he's just learning and exploring for now. In a week or so, he may have no interest in it, he may want the spoon. He sees ma using a cup, he wants to do it too. He'll see u using a spoon, he'll want it too. It's monkey see, monkey do from here on out.

Your baby should stay on formula as long has you can keep him on it. It is normal to wean him off between 8-9 months.
They are all so different, only you can judge. Try giving less cereal at lunch. See if he takes more formula.

Just read your add on.
You can cut out one bottle. But increase the amount in the other 4. Ideally you want him to start sleeping through the night.

Your baby defiantly needs his formula, but if your feeding him solid foods that will fill his little tummy up. He may not want the formula because formula as well as solids will fill him up also the formula may be to much for him. my daughter also started solid food early around a month and a half and i noticed she would only drink about 2 to 3 ounces out of her regular 6 ounces. You should defiantly talk with your pediatrician and make her/him aware of change in his eating habits. Also there are liquid vitamins (poly-vi-sol) to give him as a little extra vitamin supply. I don't think he is weening himself off the bottle just maybe a little to full to drink all of his milk :)

I think maybe he is eating a little bit to much to soon, My baby girl is nearly 4 months and is having 5 7oz bottles in 24 hours plus a small amount of baby rice once a day. I let her tell me when she is hungry though and that isn`t every 4 hours, he probably isn`t hungry every 4 hours. Just follow his lead and all will be fine.
Good Luck.

You should keep trying they need the formula more than the food at this point. He should drink his formula 1st if he is acting like he does not want it after he eats food. They get all there nutrients from the formula at this age. He really does not need to drink water right now. You can try putting his formula in the spippy cup.

My little one regulated her own schedule.Try to not be so ridged and try to work him into a a three meal a day routine. make his solids the three meals and his liquids snacks maybe an hour or two after eating. At 11 months she's at three meals and three 8oz. cups, with a snack after her afternoon nap.
Also you can try just giving him the bottle to grab on his own when he wants it. Can he hold it on his own yet? If he can you can try that. Let him drink through out the day at his leisure. I hope this helps.

4 months is far too young for solids of any kind. You are increasing your baby's risk of food allergies, digestive problems and obesity later in life by feeding him at this age. STOP feeding him solids and he will happily take the normal amount of milk. When he is 6 months old, you can start him on solids again, but until then, he should have formula ONLY with no ceral, no vegetables, no fruit, no solids of any kind. I know that formula is more expensive than baby food but suck it up and do what's right for your baby.

I have a 4 month old as well and he does the same thing. Sometimes he just needs to be burped more than once, that could be why he does that. So try it and see.
