A due date should be able to be given using your first day of your last period, so bring this information along with you. If you do not have this information an ultrasound can give you your due date, keep in mind this date will probably change in the third trimester as it becomes more accurate to guess gestation, and due dates.
At 6 weeks you probably will not be able to hear babies heart beat with a doppler, you should expect to hear it around 12 weeks.
You can expect numrous amounts of tests, blood pressure, blood, urine, and general weight/heigh measurements. This will feel all very routine, because it is. You might be perscribed prenatals if you aren't already taking them.
As for the cramping and other concerns you have, be sure to speak up and get those questions answered fully, so you don't go home and worry your head. Bring them writen down with your period information. Also bring a pen to write down any answers he might give you for future ref.
Good luck and try to enjoy your fist appointment!

the ultrasound is a very easy test. They put warm lubricant on your tummy, then place a microphone-type device on your skin of your tummy. The technician will look all around in your womb for the tiny baby. You usually can see the screen of what she is viewing. If you can't see the screen ask if she will put it in your view. She will be able to detect the baby, the hearbeat, and the size. He can give you a due date. It helps if you know the 1st day of your last period. At 6 weeks I was passing a little blod with cramps. Thankfully all was well and now she is 23 years old!! Praying for you!-

You will get a due date. He will ask you for the first day of your last period and from that he will give you a due date... you can find it out yourself from typing in that info on;
www.i-am-pregnant.com
You wont hear a heartbeat yet, too soon, atleast a few months to go yet.
Basically, you pull up your shirt and push down the tops of your trousers, he/she will squeeze cold cold goo on your tummy and rub the big sticky thing over it to show the baby on the screen. Your baby will look like a walnut size.
If the doc pushes your stomach alot and feels it about like it was playdough, dont worry, this cant hurt your baby. Its normal, its the doctor after all. The baby is protected extrememly well by all the water.. like sophisticated shock absorbers. And my doctor pushed my tummy about up until 9 months. no probs.
Good luck sweetie! :) I had a baby girl 3 weeks ago! :)

The earliest they can see a heartbeat on us is 6 weeks. So as long as you are 6 weeks and not 5 they should see one. They will probably have to do a vaginal scan though.

you will probably have to have an internal scan, due to the size of the foetus, the midwife may be able to give a due date but they normally have to wait till 8 weeks or later to be accurate as they measure the length.
the heart beat is so tiny you cannot hear until around 14 weeks plus, but you may be able to see it.
Good luck
