Well todays news story about the McCanns seems to be about how the 3 friends of the McCanns who were flown back from Britain to clarify points in their statements have apparently accused Murat of being near the apartment shortly after the alarm was raised. Murat claims he was in his mothers house the whole time.

But here's what I dont get. The 3 friends of the McCanns all claim to have seen Murat. Yet strangely no-one else that is not connected with the McCanns has made this claim.

Also we know that this is Murat's 2nd round of interviews and that he was brought back in the 2nd time so that he could meet the friends face to face to discuss the discrepency. So if 'other' people had also made the claim that he was there, then he would have been brought back in a lot more often to confront those people as well.

Isn't it strange that out of the dozens of people that searched for Madeleine that night, and with all the exposure Murat has received, it appears that only the McCann friends are the ones who seem to be accusing him of being there that night. Hmmmm......

I've just read the sky report & cant believe what I've just read. How can witnesses be allowed to grill another witness. Is it because they are doctors like the M'Canns. I agree I think Murat is being set up good style. A simple solution to the whole thing would be to give the M'Canns, their friends & Murat lie detector tests then everyone would know then what the truth is. Nothing though will change the fact that had they not left their 2yr old twins & 3 yr old maddy ALONE she would be back in nursery school or whatever in rainy old Britain. I wish I knew though why the authorities haven't spoken to them about leaving the little ones alone. A couple of years ago a single parent mum got her children taken away because she went off to Turkey to be with her new boyfriend that she had met when she'd been on holiday with her family a few weeks before, & left her I think they were 5 & 8 yr olds alone with their 12 yr old sister to look after them. Why is the law so different for the M'Canns. I'm not having a go at single parents my daughter is one now since her divorce. I know she wouldn't leave her kids alone to even pop to the corner shop 100 yds away from her house. I hope Maddy is found alive & well soon

murat has been a scapegoat from the beginning. why did no one from the mccann's party ever made that claim before? if the claim was made to the police and was kept quiet why wasn't murat bought in again? the only person who saw someone with a figure that looked like a child was the female member of the group...i cannot remember her name.! suddenly there are 2 more persons claiming to see robert murat near the apartment on the night 3 may.

I actually quite like the idea of getting witnesses with conflicting statements together for questioning ... it's a technique I used to use when my children were younger, and it actually does make it easier to tell who is lying. Also it is much harder for people to accuse someone else of something that isn't true when that person is sitting in front of them.

Anyway - I thought this SOL article about the questioning might be of some interest...

Murat and three McCann Friends Confronted

The police will confront three elements of the group that holidayed with Madeleine’s parents in PDL with their testimony against the lone arguido’s in this case regarding the disappearance of the little British girl.

Robert Murat and three friends of Kate and Gerry McCann will be heard by the PJ of Portimão, still this Wednesday.
The four questioned will be confronted with their original testimony, in order to glean the truth regarding what happened the night of the abduction, seeing as their original accounts contradict each other.

Between the Brits who holidayed with Madeleine’s parents in the Ocean Club and that will be heard today, from what SOL has learnt, is the couple Russell O’Brien and Jane Tanner.

Remember that in an investigation SOL revealed that Russell was the element of the group of friends that was absent the most from dinner the night Madeleine McCann disappeared.
The testimony of a worker in the resort confirms that days before Russell was also absent during the group’s dinner.

Jane Tanner is one of the key witnesses of the process that has already affirmed to have seen – in a trip made to the apartments to check that the children were okay – a man carrying a child in his lap (colo in Portuguese=lap).

The Briton affirmed having seen a man between the ages of 35 and 40, dark-skinned or tanned, wearing beige slacks, a dark coat and classical black shoes, with a girl in his lap (colo) wearing pajamas and barefoot.

With everything, this picture does not match completely the profile of Murat, in that he – contrary to the man Jane described –never had long hair in the back.

In spite of the detailed description provided by Jane, Jeremy Wilkins – another witness who found himself at the exact moment on the street where Jane says to have seen the man with the child – told the SUN that he did not see anything, adding that if there was someone there, it would have been practically impossible to not have seen anything.

Other points the police will be clarifying is the presence of Robert Murat in the OC on the night of Maddie’s disappearance.

The friends of the McCann’s confirm having seen the arguido in the resort in PDL, but officials and elements of the GNR counter this version of events.

This story gets stranger by the day. I know he lives away from the holiday complex, but since Murat was accused of being near the apartment AFTER Madeline went missing, wouldn't it mean he was trying to look for her, rather than getting rata*sed at a bar, like Mummy and Daddy? Basically shifting the blame onto someone else! In the UK, wouldn't the friends be charged with "Witness Intimidation"?

Murat is being set up as the patsy. I said that ages ago, if the police had any real evidence against Murat he would have been charged by now.
Agree, its strange that the only witnesses that place Murat near the Mccann apartment are the Mccann friends.
Besides, why would Murat be "near" the apartment "shortly after" the disappearance of Madeleine? Surely it would be more suspect if he were seen "shortly before". After all if he is responsible, where was Madeleine whilst Murat was being "seen". If he had handed her on to an accomplice I'm pretty certain the last place he would be, was near the Mccann apartment.
If Murat can be arrested and charged solely on the evidence of the Mccann friends, i will never buy it. The Old Bill tore his home apart, and the vehicles he had access to, plus other properties and found Bo Diddly.
This evidence is too suss for words.

Only in portugal eh?? Never in the british legal system would witnesses be able to confront a suspect - absurd. There seems to have been an awful lot of people hanging around that night - most of them friends of the McCanns, maybe one of them could have watched the children for them while they ate?

I'm still convinced you are a child protection social worker Dave - if not, maybe you should consider it, we are desperate! Perhaps your website job pays a lot better though - very likely.

As much as I want to see this horrible mystery solved especially for the sake of Madeleine, I really hope the wrong person is not accused. This would be a tragedy for both him and Madeleine. It also seems very odd that only the McCann friends claim to have seen Murat near the apartment that night and this must only be a recent claim as this was not mentioned when Murat was initially questioned by the police as a journalist claimed he appeared suspicious. Why didn't the McCann friends' claim come out then?

Although i find the whole McCann tribe weird and i think there is something fishy going on. shouldnt we forget that Murat had his computer checked by the police and they found child porn on it.

I'm not saying this means he had anything to do with maddys disappearance but if he had child porn on this pc then that makes him look suss anyway.

Jack H....you have a good point there. who WAS looking after their kids that night.

Gerry himself knew Murat already, possibly additionally others in the occasion. Why, while Gerry became into asked if he knew Murat the day after Madeleine disappeared, did he refuse to respond to? in case you probably did no longer comprehend somebody, you may at the instant say no, does not you? I nevertheless have faith Murat became into the arranged bypass-between between the McCanns and the guy(s) who took Madeleine.

It truely is a ridiculous approach, to allow three "witnesses" confront the "arguido" like this. How does he stand a chance against three people accusing him of something he denies?
Its the Portuguse Inquistion if you ask me. Murat may get so ground down by it he admits it just to end all this. He probably feels almost suicidal by now.
Intimidation of a witness I would call it at the very least, how superior must these three feel now?
I wonder how much was drank last night in the Tapas bar, as they regaled everyone with the details of this bizarre meeting?
