If the police don't do anything, how did all those folks end up on trial?
I've had some pretty serious issues with police departments over the years. Most of the time, it's because of arrogant fools at the top.
But where I live today, I know the are out there, watching and protecting. That's a good thing.

Not all are, but many who want to do the right thing are outnumbered by those who don't so in essence yes they are worthless. The only thing they are good at is writing traffic tickets to hard working honest citizens. My son and I were attacked one night by racists, an officer was parked across the street, he never tried to help, after the attack I ran to his car he said he was to busy and that I would have to call 911 for assistance. Two weeks later an officer showed up at my house and wrote me a ticket for playing loud music. After a heated argument he threatened me then said he was just trying to keep his neighborhood safe. I said HA! Where were you when we got attacked. He laughed and walked away. Yes they are a joke! I'd be a lot better off if I could carry a concealed weapon legally, than to depend on some stupid ***. : )

I think you might be mistaking the police for the court system. Mostly, the cops are good at finding criminals and arresting them - and as soon as the prosecutors get ahold of them, they start looking for excuses to 'get rid of' them (i.e. set them free). Then the judges jump in. Some are good, some are activists who also work to set them free.
Of course, if you are in an emergency situation, it's a good idea to be able to take care of yourself (or avoid the situation by being security conscious and avoid situations - like people you know are volatile - where you know that trouble is coming) until the police can arrive. Because there are so many thugs let back out on the street, and limited funds (not because of stinginess, just because there are always limited funds) there seems to be a shortage of cops in general.
I kinda feel bad for cops, because unlike firefighters, being a cop is really a thankless job. No one wants them around until they need them to be around, and everyone wants them to go away right away. They see the worst in people - frequently in the same communities where they live - so they develop a jaded attitude that makes it hard for them to trust people in social situations - how many are hermits for that reason? I don't know, but I know that I don't socialize with cops - and I know a few!
They are nearly always first on scene to any situation - and get the scene cleaned up so that fire fighters can go in and 'save the day' - and who does everyone want to praise?
And, man, everyone is looking for and expecting cops to mess up. I sure wouldn't want the job. I imagine that in and around the major cities that it is more like being in a war zone than anything. I listen to the type of things that happen in our city and think that I definitely am glad I'm not in that line of work.
Did you just get a ticket? (I can tell you I was on a rampage with my last - and first - one.)

For everyone who just wants to slag the Police off, can you really imagine society without them? Stop being so quick to judge those who protect and help us (and that goes for military, nurses, teachers, firemen, etc too!)
The police in and of themselves are not useless, they are just not allowed to do the job they are supposed to do.
They have their hands tied with so much red tape that to arrest an actual criminal is made almost impossible (for example, instead they have to understand cultural rights and all that bollox).
Also, when they do arrest a little **** who doesn't deserve the right to be out in public, the courts just let them right back out again.
Is this really the police's fault?

It is not the Police that are a joke as most of them are dedicated to their job and wish to rid the streets of crime etc. The joke is the law under which they are expected to operate which in so many cases favours the miscreant rather than the victim. Add to that the heavy load in paper work and administration and the actual man hours being used to fight crime are severely reduced.

Well no...Not exactly...
Its just that their "use" has changed....
Their chief "use" is to generate funds...Either by writing tickets....Or by seizing private property usually under the guise of a "Drug War".....(The government is at war with the private sector?)...
And have been allowed to build up military units in this war to be used against private citizens...WTF?
Hence there is little desire to actually pursue other criminals....Like the real ones....
Don't believe me just report a real crime...
Some little Roley poley fellow will come out and look around (Trying to find something to use against you?)...Then that's it....Unless the criminal walks naked into the police station you are SOL...
I know...Ive been there...
Edit:
Never trust them or say ANYTHING to them you dont have to....

Around our way (Worcestershire) they are very good at covert videoing people and in harassing and ridiculing old ladies for the amusement of passers-by.
They are extremely good at protecting wood pigeons but aren't interested in thieves & vandalism
They are exceptionally good at wasting money - sending officers out without correct papers and bringing in Solicitors who are paid by Joe Public.
The only force they know is the brute variety.

London calling: it particularly is not any longer honest. All police forces do all they could. I doubt if any rigidity can conceal a marathon a hundred%. the instructions we found out from IRA bombs did no longer end 7/7 or others. So purpose your assaults on the scum who plant bombs - no longer the centers who %. up the limbs.

I once kind of though so until one day about 38 years ago when some perv was holding my brother & I against our will at gunpoint. The most beautiful sight in the world was that fat Irish Boston cop who use to "hassle" us for the usual childish crap when he came crashing through the door and took the bastard out.

Good, next time you have a problem, I'll assume you'll call the local criminal for assistance. That will give the Police more time to help those that actually appreciate and respect what they do.
