Why does San Jose have it's own section when it's part of the SF Bay Area and questions could just be as easily asked under SF as here. And look, there are hardly any questions in here b/c they are all asked in SF, even questions about the San Jose area. Why don't they have an Orange County section too? Or a New Jersey section? Baltimore? All those places have way more people than San Jose but they don't get their own category. Do you think Yahoo is just biased b/c it's located near there? It just doesn't make sense there would be a San Jose category considering all the other metro areas missing on here like Minneapolis, Tampa, ect...

very few people are actually answering the question. I am fully aware what the population statistics are of San Jose and that doesn't mean they deserve there own category. Can someone please explain why if SJ deserves a category then why don't other metro areas that have more people./

I'm sure because of it's location in Sunnyvale, many Yahoo employees live in San Jose and that there probably is a definite bias towards San Jose, it is after all, a big part of the Silicon Valley and the technology industry. You notice how defensive people are that have answered your question, but San Jose people have always had an inferiority complex about their city, and well they should. I know San Jose people will want to berate me for saying this, but there is nothing to do or see in San Jose from a travel or tourist point of view, it's basically one giant suburb and if it weren't for Yahoo being close to SJ, I'm sure there wouldn't be a San Jose category. And to all the people that want to suggest the Tech Museum, the Winchester Mystery House or the Sharks, let me repeat myself, there is nothing to do or see in San Jose. I've lived in the Bay Area most of my life, and still can't think of one good reason to go there.

San Jose is well known all over the World because it is the Cyber Space capitol of the World, also known as Silicon Valley. Go on line and look that up and you'll be amazed. There's a Yahoo headquarters just a couple miles from my home, along with headquarters from all high tech corporations in the World. Santa Clara county is the second largest county in the state and according to the FBI, SJ is the safest big city in the country. It's also one of the most expensive places to live in the country. Palo Alto (Stanford U) just down the street, is the most expensive place to live in the country.

Silicon Valley put San Jose on the map. It's not a one horse town anymore. I moved here to get away from city life..New York City to be exact. All it did was follow me. I miss the cactus plants on Capital Exp, all those wonderful fruit stands on the side of the road, they're almost non-existent, those nice little shops where everyone knew each other. I wish they would have put Silicon Valley somewhere else. Now we have a conglomerate of monopolizing companies taking over everything. That's why San Jose has a category. Thanks to technology, Walmart, Starbucks etc.....there making there money, they don't particularly care what the people living here want....and some people do like these changes, mostly the ones making the almighty dollar...after all, it's "Progress"?

I do not live in the SF Bay Area, I live in San Jose so I am glad that Yahoo has it separate.

It probably has to do with 1. how many people in San Jose are in the yahoo community not to mention the actual population count 2 it is based in Sunnyvale, but go to New York or Texas or New Jersey and say Sunnyvale, CA and they will have no clue, you say San Jose and they know...thanks to the Sharks. ;)

May be they got many requests from San Jose residents and residents around San Jose area to open this sub-category. Other people should request to have their city/metropolitan area listed too and may be they will include it.

Btw, an FYI to galaxiquestar: they do have British, Russian, African, Australian, Greek, Indian and many other cultural items in Yahoo Avatars.

San Jose is the 3rd largest city in California and the 10th largest in the U.S. It's much bigger than all of those other cities. I thinks San Jose has earned it's right to it's own category.

San José is the third largest city in the country's most populated state. It's also the tenth largest city in the US, and about 250,000 larger than San Francisco.

It could also be that there are a lot of contributors from San José.

Don't sweat it. It's just bits sitting on a hard drive somewhere. The cost to add SJ is probably less than a dime to Yahoo as far as storage goes.

I agree, SJ has little to offer in the way of touristy stuff, but it's a major tech destination, so it doesn't hurt to offer it

Population 2005: 945,000
3rd largest city in California
10th largest city in United States

Does anything more really need to be said? And the population total does not reflect the many illegal immigrants

Oh, I agree there are definite biases at Yahoo. I didn't know about it being based near San Jose, but I'm not surprised. It's like the deluge of Asian backgrounds that showed up in Yahoo Avatars. Why were Asian, particularly Phillipine, clothes and scenes given such a preference? They certainly aren't doing the same for Latin American, African or Middle Eastern cultures. I'll bet there are a large number of Asians working at Yahoo. Just compare the Cinco de Mayo Avatar offerings compared to St. Patrick's Day or even Kwaanza. It's painfully obvious where their preferences lie.
