A friend gave me 2 of these things. I do not know what they are and neither does she.. She bought some bell pepper plants and apparently some of these plants were mixed in also. Please someone identify these things. Photos enclosed in links.

if it is an apple gourd..can you eat it? is it edible? How do you prepare it?

It's an apple gourd.

i agree it's probably an apple gourd.....you can eat it and I would prepare it like any other squash (e.g. like butternut): cut in half (or quarters), scoop out the seeds, brush with oil or melted butter and grill until soft. served as a vegetable it's a bit like sweet potato/squash. alternatively, peel, de-seed and cut into chunks. roast in the oven with a couple of spoons of olive oil until soft and golden brown, then make soup of it by adding the cooked chunks to boiling stock. cook briefly then puree.

i think it is a variety of bottle gourd, a vegetable. cut it in half see if the seeds look like white squash seeds, if it is, it is probably a bottle gourd

It looks like a watermelon... cut it in half and see if the flesh inside is pink/red..

it's an unturned watermelon. (you have to keep them turned while growing in order to become more oval.
