She cries & stays quiet when I offer my breast, but she soon falls asleep while doing her little sucking. Should I let her do this? Or will this led to a bad habit? Thanks

She is using nursing to put herself to sleep. That might be ok for now, but the transition later might be rough. If you know she's not hungry, just wanting to suck for comfort, why not offer a pacifier?

Its perfectly fine and no it does not become a bad habit. Everything about breastfeeding is beneficial so just let her do her thing, if she is happy then leave her be.
RIght now she needs the comfort and that is fine, there is nothing wrong with nursing your baby to sleep its natural and thats how they are meant to go to sleep. And comfort nursing is just as important as nursing for hunger.
Just enjoy this special time because they grow up way to quickly and they never stay little long enough!!

I would say, of COURSE, let her comfort nurse :). Why offer a "fake" pacifier when she can have the real thing? It will keep up your supply, keep you from ovulating (in most cases), and is pure bliss for your baby! And dont worry about "bad habits"... ugh. My daughter is nearly 13 months old, and I have ALWAYS let her nurse whenever/wherever, even if it is just for comfort. She has just recently night weaned herself (and we co-sleep!) for the most part, and can fall asleep without nursing, although we prefer just nursing to sleep.. So much easier that way!
YOu just follow your heart and insticts, and they will not lead you astray.
Good luck!

That's great for your baby and for you. Your baby gets the comfort she needs, and allowing her to comfort nurse will help delay the return of your fertility. This is one of the most wonderful parts of breastfeeding. It's also such a tender time when they are snuggled up to you nursing. You'll feel so close to your baby and remember these times for the rest of your life. And as your baby gets older, she will already associate breastfeeding with comfort, so when she's learning to crawl and bumps her head, or is learning to walk and scrapes her knee, she will naturally turn to breastfeeding for comfort. You will have a surefire way to comfort her for as long as you are breastfeeding!

Let her. My son was that way. He is 7 months old now, and he falls asleep on his own. He still will "comfort nurse" at times.

I did this with my son so I'm not saying it's right or wrong...he just got collic pretty bad because he was taking in the air instead of milk as if he was hungry but when I had a lot of milk to give he had no choice but to swallow it and he would wake up with projectile vomiting...YUCK!! :)

I was wondering the same thing about me and my baby. He loves to nurse himself to sleep. I don't mind doing it because it is just so sweet. But I have to return to work in 2 weeks and I know it's going to be an adjustment for him because I'm not going to be there to nurse him to sleep. I think you just do what feels right for you and your baby.

It will definately lead to bad habits later. I did it to and am still breast feeding at 11 months. ( 11 months today!!!) I m in the process of weaning her off but i know its going to be hard as she uses my breast to fall asleep. Its going to be tough!!!!!

it may lead to bad habits later, especially if she becomes dependent on nursing to fall asleep
