Everybody who said Nolan Ryan is an idiot. yeah, he threw 7 no hitters, and 12 one hitters, I agree, that's impressive. Yeah, he struck out the most batters in history. He also walked the most. He also had the most wild pitches. Nolan Ryan had a good long career, but he was never as dominant as Roger Clemens.
Nolan Ryan could be outright amazing one day, but then the another day look absolutely awful. You wouldn't even think the two performances could even be from the same person. Clemens has been far more consistent over his career than Ryan.
Clemens has 26 more wins, currently for his career than Ryan, and 118 less losses. 118! And more wins, in 3 less seasons. Roger Clemens has more win shares, which is a stat which is recently coming into consideration. Nolan Ryan never won a Cy Young award, not once. Clemens has 7. Clemens has a slightly lower ERA, 3.11 as compared to Ryan's 3.19.
However, their ERA+ tells a different story. Nolan Ryan's is 112, to Clemens' 144. For those of you unfamiliar to ERA+, it's a measurement of ERA in comparison to the rest of the league, considering park factors aswell, the higher the better. 100 being "average."
I'm done with my dork rant, Clemens is better tan Nolan Ryan, though Nolan Ryan was very good.

Hard to say. You have to look at key stats and such. let's examine
Nolan Ryan holds the record for most no hitters with 7. Roger has none. Nolan holds the strikeout record but Roger is 2nd, and I dont' see Roger breaking it, or anyone for that matter. Roger has more wins and less losses than Nolan and Roger has been on a few WS winners, Ryan was on one, his rookie year and not even sure he was on the roster during post season. If it were a single game situation I'd probably take Nolan Ryan, but for a season I go with Clemens. On any given day Ryan was unstoppable, but Clemens can be unstoppable for a full season.

I'm absolutely amazed that so many people said Nolan Ryan. Yeah, he has all the no hitters, strikeouts, etc., but he also walked a ridiculous number of batters. Also, Ryan has a slightly higher career ERA and played in an era of generally more favorable pitching conditions.
But here's the big one- Cy Young Awards. Ryan has zero, Clemens has SEVEN. That's nearly twice as much as any other pitcher in history.
Yes, Ryan has more strikeouts, but there's more than that when it comes to pitching.

Nolan Ryan was a great strikeout pitcher with a 100 mph fastball. However he also walked more hitters than any other pitcher, by a very wide margin. His winning percentage was only 52.6% compared to 50.6 % for the teams he played for. Clemens on the other hand is 350 -181. Clemens wins easily because of his superior record and control.

Nolan Ryan all the way.
Sure, Clemens won 7 Cy Young's to Ryan's zero... but has anyone considered that Clemens was always pitching with better teams and hitters behind him? That correlates into more runs per 9-innings.
Ryan, like Walter Johnson, did an outstanding job pitching for weak to down right awful teams.
Put Ryan on the same team with Clemens and the backup Roger had, Nolan's win-loss record would be a lot better than it is.
One more thing... I have watched many games Clemens was involved in. Many times he would be taken out with the opponents ahead in the score. Later his team would rally taking him off the (loss) hook. But, that's all part of the game.
He could very easily have several more losses.

I'm saying Ryan, and only cause i don't like Clemens. Yes, i'm being partial and bias, but i just can't stand what Clemens is doing in NY! He doesn't travel with the team, gets to come and go as he pleases, and is making waaaayyyyy too much money for a pitcher that barely above average today.

Its really not that tough. Even after Clemens amazing career, he's still over 1000 strikouts and 6 no-hitters shy of Nolan Ryan's accomplishments. Ryan was the best I have ever seen.

I'd take Nolan Ryan who was great throughout his entire career. Clemens is a has been and doesn't have the sense enough to retire and stay retired. He still fantasizes about saving the Yankees where his current record is TWO wins THREE losses. Come on, Rog, give it up!!
Chow!!

people say Clemens is a greater perfect pitcher because of the fact of his win-loss checklist. nicely, if Ryan had pitched for good golf equipment, his win-loss might've been extensively greater perfect. He on no account quite had a sturdy hitting team in the back of him, till it became into too late. it is like the year he went 8-sixteen w/the Astros. He lead the league in era and ok's, yet could not win because of the fact the Astros could not hit!!! i might take Ryan, primary, and two times on Sundays!!!
