Well if you eat a good balanced diet you don't need vitamins. But how many people eat a good balanced diet in this country? And there are vitamins you need daily which your body does not store up like vitamin "C", You can get that by eating a lime a day.(where the British got their nick name limey's)
But no vitamins ain't going to hurt you unless you take mega doses of them everyday. A good quality multi vitamin with minreals will supplament your diet with vitamins and minerals you are not getting enough of. I personally take GNC Mega Gold especially when working out.
And along with vitamins don't forget your protien you need it as much as vitamins.

It's ok to take a multi-vitamin but be sure to pick a good brand. In general, the multi-vitamins you see at the neighborhood health food store are not the best quality. A company called Montiff makes the best supplements - virtually pharmaceutical grade. Standard Process is also a very good product.

Multi-vitamins are a good dietary supplement and will not mess up your system at all. You could regard multi-vitamins as a tonic.

If you stop taking them nothing will happen except that perhaps you may not feel quite as well as when you were taking them because you have stopped taking your tonic.
