I stubbed my big toe 5 days ago and it doesn't hurt much anymore but I have some concerns: I only have about half of my normal range of motion and it definately hurts if I try to force it farther. Also, there is a weird knot on top of the joint that feels as hard as bone under the skin, but it is not painful when I press on it. It was very painful when I stubbed it and I couldn't walk on it for a few days. No swelling, no bruising, but something definately doesn't feel right. I'd appreciate responses from those who have had similar experiences, or from medical professionals. Thanks for your help!

its probably just calcium build up from when you stubbed it, i had the same thing happen when i fell on my elbow. if it doesnt have a full range of motion, tape it to the next toe for about a week, its probably just sprained.

Toes are pretty sturdy. Even if it is broken, doctors don't do anything for it. I dropped the dryer on big toe two weeks ago and it still hurts and the nail is black. Go to the doctor if you are worried about it but if it is getting better, there is little cause for concern. If you don't want to get freaked out, don't read on but I do also remember reading about a cheerleader that died after she fell off a pyramid. She landed funny on her finger and all was okay aside from the general pain but a few days later she died after a splinter of bone found it's way into her blood stream and lodged in her heart or lungs. Scary.

You probably just "jammed " the joint. I've done it before. As a person who has had a lot of finger and toe injuries, I can tell you right now, medical professionals will do absolutely NOTHING for yoU! If it doesn't really hurt much anymore, they they'll just tell you it's healing. Just alternate ice and heat for a day or two, to help improve circulation and get it to heal quicker. You'll be OK.

As sad as it sounds, there's not a lot one can do for toes. My mom dropped a case of large handbells on her toe and it's still purple months later. She asked her doctor about it and they said there was nothing they can do. They can't set broken toes or anything, so one just has to suffer. Sounds to me like it's getting better. As long as it's not bent out of shape you'll probably just have to grin and bear it. Sorry!

I broke my nuckle and it felt about like that 3 days later.

in the US the doc charged me 800$ for an xray cast and meds.
two weeks later I went England and had it looked at and xray'd for free. They laughed at my cast and told me I never needed it. they took it off and taped my fingers together with one strand of tape.

I also stubbed my toe and it felt like that too, but I just ended up with only a black nail a few days (4) later

either way, toe or finger (as long as its not diagonaly sticking out) you should be fine without medical attention (aka $$$$$) as long as you stay aware of it and are careful not to smack it again.

time heals........................ most things
