Thank God the Mets released him. The Braves need to cut that idiot Chris Woodward and re-sign Julio. He's a fan fave.

He was performing poorly, and wasn't making all that much money ($1.15M this year, so the Mets will pay off about a half-mil). The team is trying to win, and doesn't have the leeway to allow sentiment to overrule performance in retaining a given player. Were it September and the rosters bigger, it may have been otherwise; but in July, they've seen what he can do at this point in his career, and it just wasn't nearly enough.

Julio has been amazing for his age the last few years but his age is finally slowing him down. He hasn't been hitting that well this year. The Mets wanted to make room to bring Milidge back up. He needs playing time. He could well be their future, he may also be trade bait, and they want to show him off.

They say on ESPN that it was to make room for Lastings Milledge.
I honestly didnt even know that Julio was still playing. I'm sure he'll find work before the morning though, he's a good guy to have in the clubhouse.

He is not as productive as he used to me. He's getting up in age and the Mets need someone that is going to be more productive and get more hits, more runs than Franco can get. As much as I like Franco I agree with the Met's on this one.

Because they want to win a pennant, and with Franco hitting around 200, they needed to replace him with someone who could help them win. Remember, baseball is a business, not a sentimental past time.

He's like 68 and hitting .200 with 1 homer on the year. At least with A. Jones hitting .200, he can play D, and has a few homers( and it might cost less to resign him)

He was wasting a roster spot. They are better off with someone that can play the field and hit.....which is pretty much anyone else besides him. His days are done, he had a long, nice ride.
