They have products at Meijers that you can sprinkle around the outside of your house that will keep the ants outside. Whenever I put out traps, I put them under my refrigerator and stove so little fingers can't get to them. Also check your windows, they come in that way a lot (I have air conditioners in mine). I put the traps on the windowsill and that helped, too.

Whenever we get ants that come into the house from in the windows or walls. I usually do ant detail by spraying vinegar on the ant trails and wiping up all the ants. You can mix it up being 50/50 water and vinegar and putting the mixture in a small spray bottle. You have to keep at it. Just spray the mixture on the ants and their trails that they follow and wipe up all the ants and wipe the area down with the mixture. The vinegar masks the ants scent so they don't know where to go and eventually they leave all together because they don't remember where they are going once the scent is masked.
Usually with in a day I don' t have to worry about ants maybe one or two stray ones but that is it. With just using vinegar and water you don't have to worry about your little one getting into it since you are just spraying it and wiping it up immediately afterward. After the ants are gone you can go over the area with a wet washcloth and wipe up the vinegar/water mixture from the walls because by then the ants will be gone and so will their scent. I believe you can use different types of vinegar but I have always had the best luck with apple-cider vinegar because it has a strong smell to mask the ants scents.

OK-- This is the fifth question that I've answered about an ant problem this week.
Mix equal amounts of baking soda and confectioners sugar together.
Put some of the mixture in several small paper plates, jar covers or the like around the problem areas in your house.
The ants will carry the mixture back to the Queen and Poof...the mixture will kill the Queen. She is the culprit for all the ants to begin with.
I did this on an ant hill last week and the ant hill disappeared in less than two days.
The mixture is NOT at all harmful to your little girl. :)))

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a bag of their top rated ant-killer treatment; it will cost about $20.00. It is suppose to be put out in the early morning or late evening and also each time it rains, you'll need to put out a fresh application after the rain has stopped and when the ground has dried up. This is for long term control and won't get rid of the ants entirely but will make a significant difference. Inside the house, you can get a coupla spray cans of Insecticide to combat them. Especially around your garbage cans.

If they are the red ants or black ants that most houses have, they are easy to fix. Just put some sweet or biscuit in a plate and all the ants will go there. Put it in a place which is inaccessible to your child or if she is old enough to understand, tell her it is for the ants. No need to kill them.

The ants seem to be marching in everywhere this year. You take fresh garlic out of the skin and put them everywhere, in cabinets, corners of every room, anyplace that you have seen an ant. When they dry up you just replace them with fresh ones and after the first day they don't smell anymore unless you pick them up.
I started doing this when my daughter was less than a year old (she is now 16) and she did occasionally pick one up to taste like my 2 yr old son does now but it gets promptly spit out without any danger to them.
Give it a try, I just bought some more garlic today to replenish my dried up ones.
What is it with the ants this year?

well you can always call someone to get rid of the problem. But you know sometimes no matter how clean your house it, you'll always find ants. But the best thing I can tink of if I was in your position is that I would call up someone that fixes bug problems.
good luck
