The easiest way to slow down is to push in the clutch with your left foot then use your right foot to brake. or you could brake with your engine by downshifting while fine tuning the speed of the car with the brake. You should really be familiar with the car your driving to do this so you don't put it in a lower gear to soon and over rev your car. In bumper to bumper traffic you should signal and make sure you are moving with the flow of traffic then just merge. Try not to cut anyone off. If your in California the law says that if you can't merge with traffic then you need to stop on the onramp until you can, but this will most likely result in you getting rearended.

ok first thing is press the clutch...then press the brakes slightly and wait until you're at the speed you want...then 25 mph im guessing it's at second or third gear i would put it in third and let go of the clutch slightly while keeping up with the speed....
i wouldnt expect you to learn from reading you should go into a big parking lot and try it and learn it...
merging into the freeway in bumper to bumper traffic is you go into it the speed that most cars in the freeway are and turn the signals and wait for a spot to open up...

Break+Clutch.... and down shift.
Get used to multi-tasking when driving a shift.
To merge in bumper-to-bumper traffic, just stay in first and ride the clutch as needed.
The first time I even drove a stick-shift was on vacation in Costa Rica... with huge mountains and steep inclines. Now THAT was a pain... but I got the hang of it pretty quickly.
You need to go to some back roads without traffic and practice. "Pretend" to be merging, etc... you will get the hang of it pretty quick.

Put your foot on the brake
Begin to slow down gradually
When you slow down
Then put your foot on the clutch
******Learn Not to Ride the Clutch it will wear it out.********
What I mean by this is.....don't keep your foot on the clutch all the time while foot is on the brake or when driving.
Once you have slowed down enough revolutions then shift into 3rd or if slower 2nd gear.
I'm 68 I drive a standard transmission truck with 4 gears forward 1 gear overdrive and 1 gear reverse.
My suggestion , when trying to learn the feel of the shift, practice on a parking lot or old back road. Some vehicles like Honda have a light that tells you when to shift. Make sure if your vehicle has that or not.
Good Luck! If you learn to drive a stick you will be able to drive anything and when you get old like me, it helps to keep you on your toes and alert.

To slow down use your brakes and down shift. If there is bumper to bumper traffic you would spend a lot of time in 1st gear.

ok, this might come as a shock, but first, use the break!
also, you just push the clutch in, let off the gas, then shift to third gear, that should put you at 25mph.
secondly, merging with a manual is the same as a auto, just you keep your foot close to the clutch. I swear, i ride the clutch all the time in bumper to bumper. I never take it out of 1st, under 10mph, and don't even give it gas, just take my foot off the break. if you shift to second, just keep your feet ready to clutch and break.
If not, your car will stall without the clutch in! and i am sure you don't want rear-ended, hehe
