Im sure people will still work as they have to do something or the other? Probably they will only work on something that they love to work on. Generate products out of love for others?

I'm with you there. We in fact did have that, and some cultures still do. It's called a gift economy and it tends to work best with small-scale societies. If you're willing to live in a small society with less advanced technology (which I am), it can definitely work. Otherwise it might be more difficult, but perhaps possible. Read some stuff by Peter Kropotkin, a 19th and early 20th century anarcho-communist writer from Russia. He died right near the beginning of the USSR, and his funeral was the last time anarchists were allowed to have a public gathering in the USSR. Which brings me to say this: the fall of the USSR does not by any means discredit any and all forms of communist belief. More libertarian conceptions of communism exist, such as those of Kropotkin, Emma Goldman, Alexander Berkman (my online name's an homage to him) and others. Berkman and Goldman were early critics of the Soviet Union and it's policies. They saw the Bolshiveks as having hijacked the people's revolution and betraying it for their own causes.

And for those who say money is needed for people to work, that just simply isn't true. Look at all the people who do volunteer work. In fact, people start to enjoy the work they do less when they are paid for it, at least according to what two of my friends (who are psychology majors) have learned in their psyc classes. I don't know the actual principal, but you could probably find it easily online. I for one have done lots of volunteer work, and would do a lot more if I had the time, but instead I have to work for money to survive and to pay for my educational costs. Oh, and as for the comments about no one doing dirty or difficult jobs like waste managment and such, people can take turns to do those things. If someone refuses to do their stint, then they don't have to; they also don't have to eat. Perhaps a bit harsh, but that is one way to eliminate money and also get those things done. From each according to ability, to each according to need. I for one would be happy to not be forced into working for money.

That is a very interesting question! I am currently reading Marx and he is thoroughly convinced that this is workable. I am not as convinced, but I don't necessarily believe it is impossible.

The reason why I am skeptical of this is because even if this veil of false conciousness (as Marx would say) was removed, I believe that someone somewhere would fail to see that working for the love of ourselves and others is a preferable thing to things such as capitalism.

I would love the world which Marx thinks is coming, I just don't have any faith that it is sustainable on a large scale. The more people there are, the more likely there will be a person who feels that screwing other over to help themself is better than working for a communal good.

That's a nice thought. If we didn't have to work we wouldn't do anything we would eat and become alot more fatter than we are now. No that won't work, we can't eat if no one is making food. We do our job because we need to do it, money motivates people. It becomes one of our needs and wants. If we change the no money rule and just love then we would have less reason to work. We can't get a free ipod if no one is going to make it. See? No money = No products.

That sounds like a nice idea, but a little thing called communism didn't work.
The USSR was one of the most corrupt, polluted and economically segregated countries on the face of the earth for almost a century.

I suppose you've never read the Bible's take on this. It tells in great detail about how the Anti-christ will issue in one world currency & people will not be able to buy or sell without his mark on their hand or forehead. Some believe it will be a microchip. We are indeed working toward that day. Many will believe it to be a peaceful time & it will be for a while but God help those who take that mark. It's the same as selling your soul to Satan.

Because of the greed and people's need for power.

They have created the very world in are talking about in the Star Trek (and spin off shows).

Because people in power are rich, so if they are no longer rich, then they won't have as much power/influence. Why would they allow that to happen?
