If you don't have a set of good RB's plus a really decent backup RB, make the trade. Most defenses are fickle, they're difficult to predict from year to year. If you're sharp and pay attention, you can pick up decent defenses off the waiver wire as the season progresses. You can also play matchups with defenses, picking up mediocre defenses that play weak offensive teams week by week.

It's much tougher to pick up productive RB's off the waiver wire in most leagues than it is an ok DEF. And Barber should definitely be productive for you and has been pretty sturdy also.

Good luck!

Now that I see what you have, if it were me I would:
1) Take the trade
2) Keep Julius Jones and trade or drop your backup TE
3) Pickup either OAK or WAS DEF
4) You're covered with both DAL RB's in case of injury or whatever. You could also try to trade to Jones plus your backup TE for a better DEF if anyone is interested.

Unless you are overloaded at RB (which would be rare) make the trade. Although the Pitt defense is a perennial top 5 Fantasy defense, they are going to be without Porter at LB, and under a new coaching regime. Barber should be a good fit for his new coach's system (W Phillips). Even if the waiver wire looks somewhat weak at Def/ST right now, the truth is 2-3 defenses step up and surprise almost everyone each year. Wait until week 2 and you'll find a good defense on the WW to replace whatever scrub you may be forced to pick up right now...unfortunately finding quality RBs on the waiver wire can be tougher.

I have been playing fantasy football for four years and I have learned that running backs are what win the championships!! You can get a good/decent defense each week on the waiver wire if needed.. I say keep Barber.. Also he scores more than Jones for the Cowboys... Also there is talk about Jones leaving Dallas too which would benefit you if you have Barber!!!!

Lets not jump the gun just yet. Rookies, You want to get the RB. Send a separate email asking if he wanted to trade a differnt back or if you have a bad RB trade the (bad RB & Pitts Def) for( Barber or a better RB he has for his def & good RB). Remember just send a separate email and ask the worst he can do is say no . If he will not than make the trade.
GOOD LUCK

Although Tory Holt is terrible this year because of a bad Offensive Line and QB Issues, and you'd be getting T.O., Peterson is the best RB in the league and Kevin Smith is close to a 2nd string RB (Rudi Johnson should be starting over him). Don't do the trade. =P

If your RB's are weak and you are solid on DEF, minus Pittsburgh, then make the trade.

I'm not telling you whole-heartedly, yes make it. If you want better feedback, then I suggest posting the rest of your team and telling how many teams are in your league.

your running backs are studs... I mean isn't barber still splitting time with Julius Jones? If you only play 2 rbs at a time, i wouldn't do it. I'd ask him for a better RB if he needs a defense...

WHO IS YOUR BACK-UP DEFENSE. IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE, WHAT TEAMS ARE STILL AVAILIBLE IN THE FREE AGENT POOL? IF YOU STILL CAN PICK UP A SOLID DEFENSE IN THE POOL, I WOULD DO IT..
