Windows Media Player.
Audio-Video Interleaved, known by its acronym AVI, is a multimedia container format introduced by Microsoft in November 1992 as part of its Video for Windows technology. AVI files can contain both audio and video data in a standard container that allows synchronous audio-with-video playback.

Every media player should be able to read standard AVI files with the video encoded in MPEG-2. If it is encoded with DivX or XviD, then you will not be able to play in any player. You can confirm that it is encoded in another format when you can only hear the audio, but no video is being displayed.

I suggest downloading CCCP from the link that I provide below and installing them. The codec pack comes with Media Player Classic, which is a recommended player that can be used to read lots of video formats, which includes Real Media and MOV files.

Hope that helps =)
