The truth does hurt by what actions the other person has done but I myself would much rather hear the truth than be lied to. I can deal with honesty much more than I can dishonesty and more willing to forgive if it comes down to that if I haven't been lied to.

Truth hurts but it is sometime the only good alternative.
Consider two circumstances.
A boy that betrayed her girlfriend by sleeping with another one. Even if it was a moment of weakness and that the person really love his girlfriend he will have to tell her the truth even if it hurts. However this will really hurt the girl, really.
Another situation is when someone has only few days due to an illness. The doctor will tell the diagnostic to the patient`s family. There also the truth will hurt. However i think it is preferable to hide the truth to the person so that he does not think of his death all time and that he enjoys the remaining days of his life. This will just be a white lie.
