I think you need to look harder. Though there may be dry spells here and there, there's always something coming up. Look at the seasons for every theatre in your area and slightly beyond. If there's nothing for yu, volunteer at the theatre. Stay involved so that you have an in when it comes time to audition. Theatres are VERY political that way. The more 'dues' you pay, themore likely you are to get the proper attention when the time comes. As long as you're good, they're more likely to look at you for a role. Make it known what you want in the next production (Gosh, I'd love to play Louisa in the Fantasticks, that would be my dream!). It's not hard to let the director over hear you saying that... we're all good at that, right? Be savvy... If you want this you're going to have to work for it. You could also work your way into classes at whatever theatre you volunteer at. Maybe they would make you a deal for helping take tickets and ushering? Learn to work it ;-)
By the way, I did a search for performing arts theatre in San Jose and these names came up:
The Lyric Theatre
Olinder Theatre
Theater on San Pedro
California Theatre
Fox California Theatre Co.
Tabard Theatre Co.
Montgomery Theatre of San Jose OR San Jose Montgomery Theatre
Quo Vadis Theatre Co.
Mexican Heritage Theatre
American Musical Theatre of San Jose
City Lights Theatre Company
Northside Theatre Company
University Theatre
San Jose Children's Musical Theatre
You can start by finding their websites and if they're community theatres try auditioning for them or asking them about their auditions and classes they may have. The more profressional theatres are likey to have tours and not have auditions for those shows.
good luck

Hey kid, it's me. I tried to tell you this. You need to forget about agents and headshots and professional work of any kind for the time being. You should just be looking for a place where you can get started learning how to act. I know you said there aren't many places where you live but you only need one. I'm positive you could find a place if you look hard enough. You don't realize how lucky you are. You can just do the fun part of acting. The parts about getting an agent and all that are frustrating and hard work. Just go act and have fun. In a few years (which believe me will fly by) you can start thinking about the other stuff. And you'll be ready. Get as good as you can. You will find you get turned down for roles all the time for many reasons. Don't make being a bad actor one of them. Get good before you try to get work. You should want to be a kid who acts. Not a kid actor. Don't you know how many of them end up in big trouble? You don't want that. I've been around a lot. Trust me, just act for fun and worry about the other stuff later.

How old are you? The difficulty in finding classes is miniscule in comparison to the real obstacles you'll find in pursuing a career. If you're old enough, move to LA or NYC. If you're not, develop yourself as a human being - it will show up in your work. Are there dance classes? singing classes? Piano? Rock climbing? People watch - see what makes them unique and how you might incorporate that into a character. Watch good movies to see how an actor was able to move you. Watch bad movies to see how you could have done it better. Read scripts, lots of them. Find roles you want to play when you have the chance. Put together workshop productions at the community theatre on dark nights or in between productions. If it's really important to you, you'll find a way.
And about the agent thing, if you're not ready, you won't work. And if you're not going to work, why do you need an agent?

Truthfully, it's not just about talent. I know of at least two people who've never taken a class or maybe just a 2 day improv who got agents and booked in very short order.
There's no "one way" to do it. Don't take my word (or anyone else for that matter) and look around you. How many actors have you seen who have less acting ability than many others.
It's skill, luck, promotion, who you know, right place/right time and so on.
There are schools, coaches, books, videos, scam-agents and so on.
Do try to get in to any sort of theater group/company. Get some sort of experience...
Also, know one thing. Your odds of becoming a rocket scientist (literally, a rocket scientist) are probably better than making it in the business of acting. I'm not being negative, just looking at the cold-hard facts. So just make sure you do it because you love it not to become famous/rich or a/g else.

Unless you are under the age of 8, if you have no LEADING role credits, and a HUGE amount of training, no you will not get signed by an agent.
Take acting classes, at school, at local colleges, maybe a nearby conservatory, just do it.
Also, who cares if community theatre has hardly any auditions? Nail them when they come around, and get cast. Always audition, even if there aren't a lot of chances.
Hope this helps.

Actually, what that Mimi girl said isnt true.
I've JUST gotten my agent a few months ago, and im 14, with barely any acting experience. I first suggest that you go to some LOCAL agencies, start out there. Get some photos done, and start marketing yourself. That way you'll get a feel of the industry, and get your name around.
