It is a 95 Pontiac Trans Am, 5.7 V8, 6 speed with a custom short shifter. I recently purchased it as a project car. The car is a monster and runs solid, but I would like to know some things I can do to start building it up more. The car already has a cold air intake instead of Ram Air and the computer has been worked on to remove the Skip Shift Pontiac put in that year. What other small/cheap things can be done to get more out of this engine?

I apologize, I forgot to mention that it does have a custom exhaust

you could add a free-flow catalytic converter and some performance mufflers, as well and get slightly larger exhaust pipes

What is your milage? I've got a 96 camaro, 175k on it. Recently gave it the "Seafoam Treatment". Start with a can of seafoam in your gas tank. Then use another can for you intake. Find a vacum line (on your car the brake booster will work best), unclamp it and put a funnel in. Now start your car (it will start hard due to the vacum leak you just made). After you get it started slowly pour in a can of seafoam. Pour slowly so as not to let your car stall out. Once your can is almost empty, quickly dump the rest in and hopefully this will cause your car to stall. Wait 15 minutes, the start up the car and let it idle a while. You will probably see TONS of dark smoke coming out, which basically means its doing some serious cleaning. You can also use seafoam DeepCreep to clean up the throttle body.

This treatment will not ADD horsepower to your car but it WILL restore any power you lost over the years due to carbon deposits in your intake, throttle body, fuel injectors, etc. You will also see gas mpg go up (mine did by almost 5mpg!!).

It may sound complicated but its really not hard to do at all. Well worth the 15 bucks for two cans of seafoam and a can of deepcreep.

Sam get ready to cringe when I say this to you and that is you cannot alter or do too many changes on your pontiac, you are forgetting your states emission laws and I'm sure your state has them enforced,if you can get lucky then try a computer chip upgrade and that company is called hyperchip it is a performance enhanced chip designed to bring up more HP to the engine, but you need to check with your local states emissions laws for anything to do with cars,a tunnelram and a blower on the intake may be illegal to do so like they say do the math before venturing out with your projects. GOOD LUCK

You can try putting a different exhaust on, but from the sound of it that may have been done already. If you are fairly mechanically inclined you could try to do a mild port and polish job, but there is not a lot of cheap power building items that you can put on an emissions resticted vehicle.

It all depends on how much you want to spend. Do you have a set of headers on it? The biggest bang for the buck is NOX. Good luck.
