the same thing that happened in Laos and Cambodia: a bloodbath of unprecedented proportion. The solution was formulated by Schwarzkopf and Powell during the first gulf war: massive irresistable force directed toward an identifiable goal. Too many compromises were made because of liberal opposition to this sound tactic during the current gulf war. Liberals don't care how many "other" people die as long as they can continue to live their cushy lives free from all want and devote their time to meaningless "causes".

Actually, this whole mess ( Other than Al-Qaeda ) involves religious disputes, as well as who controls the oil proceeds from the Northern and Southern oil fields. The country is divided right now into three sections. The Kurds, the Sunni's and the Shi'ites. The area around Baghdad has no oil. The Kurds in the North do, and those in the South do also. One proposition was to divide the country into sections as they did in Czechoslovakia, etc. But the objections raised consists of how the oil proceeds would be distributed. You would have a wealthy North, and South, but the Central part of Iraq would have no income. Add a little religious divisions there, and you have insurgency.
Baghdad is a good place to attack. It's the capital, and it has a high population compared to most Iraqi cities. It also has a high concentration of American forces which insurgents deem prime targets. The only thing keeping it all in check is that we fight back.
If we follow the calling of the libs, we would pull the troops out and turn the security of Iraq over to Iraqi troops. The problem is, if the Iraqi troops were capable of handling the country, they would already be doing it. If we leave, this is going to give insurgents and terrorists a safe haven and a base of operations to cause havoc throughout the region. Iran would love nothing more than to see U.S. troops pulled out. As soon as we do, they will pump more money and weapons into the area than we ever saw in our wildest nightmares. Fueling a civil war would further Iran's cause, and Al-Qaeda would broadcast victory worldwide.

There will be a short period of intense fighting as Local Militias and Vigilantes take out the foreign terrorists. Then they'll fight each other for a couple of weeks and make a deal before Iran (Shiite,) or the Arab League(Sunni,) can intervene with troops.
These folks have been fighting each other for hundreds of years. They know how to do it and when to form a united front.
The one problem area is Southern Kurdistan. Turkey is already massing it's troops along the border in anticipation of a chance to invade. We'll have to leave enough UN Peacekeepers there to make sure the Turks don't do a land grab.
For that matter, a proxy war between Iran and the Arab Leauge in Iraq wouldn't be such a bad thing. It would tie up both Al Queda and Hezbollah and the bulk of their funding from the oil Sheikhs. No better way to win the larger war than by encouraging our enemies to kill each other. And, we could get some of our money back by selling them weapons.
Dale M, read some history. The Killing Fields happened in Cambodia under the Pol Pot regime. It was the Vietnamese who sent their army in and put a stop to it.

Most likely al queada will consider it a victory and will over run the country reeking more havoc on the innocent citizens of Iraq. America will lose face forever in the eyes of the rest of the world and oppressed people world wide will never feel safe looking to us for help. Remember the celebrations in Iraq when saddam's(not capitalized intentionally) statue was pulled down.
No matter how we ended up in Iraq, we NOW owe it to the rest of the world to succeed. If we don't .... GOD HELP US AND THE REST OF THE WORLD.
Radical Islam wants your blood unless you are willing to convert. This is a FACT.
Anyone who tells you Islam/Muslim religion is a peaceful religion, is COMPLETELY ignoring the history of Islam.

If we pulled out, we would leave the insurgents in charge, and more powerful, they believing they had won. More innocent Iraqi's would be tortured, having returned to the ways of Saddam Hussein. The democracy America, and Britain started, will find a quick death, along with those innocents who still want freedom, and the terrorists would have won, we would be called the losers, and the insurgents control Iraq. Saddam Hussein in these terms, will be the one who has returned from the dead, if your scenario became true.
It happened in Vietnam, where North Vietnam, now controls what was South Vietnam, after our pull out, and it happened in Somalia, after our pull out, and it happened in the Palistine, where a terrorist group took over control of their "area", without our presence. Why are the Palistinians now running to Israel for help? They used to hate the Jews, now they want them to save them. LOL, see what terrorists do? They frighten their own people!

They did elect a president to protect them--he doesn't seem to have the back bone to do what is needed, goodness sake, how much more time will it take--they will not be able to solve their problems until we leave, they will do nothing but stall for time as long as we are there. The Iraqis have resolved their problems before and they now given the chance. The troops need to leave, with honor-they have given their all and nothing to be ashamed about--It is no longer our war--It is the Iraqis at war with each other and our soldiers caught in the middle, dying for nothing. This is a NO end WAR.

How do you cure Cancer?
I'm sorry, but the people over there this has become a part of their culture, they have indoctrinated harmful acts into their lives and religion.
I personally don't feel that my fellow americans should be losing their lives over this.
And in addition, over there on lie!
The Iraq's have been fighting since Jesus Christ and other religions.
If they stop fighting they will die from the lost of no one is dying!
that whole region is a cesspool.
What will happen to the country.......What do I care. I don't know anyone in IRAQ!!!!
But I have an alligience to my country men that are losing their lives on a lie..
Blame this on Kissinger, then Baby Bush.
Kissinger sat down and told them that they could cripple the world, because they controlled the oil.........Bush abused our presidency, by trying to take somebody else's oil....bottom line!!!...................This is a criminal act.
Let them kill each other. When they run out of people to kill, they will stop....might take another 500yrs....Oh well.
Get out of Iraq.........it's a waste of young men!

Have you heard about the killing fields in Vietnam and Cambodia. After the U.S. pulled out and the Viet Conn invaded the South. They then killed every man, woman, and child that was involved with the U.S. The same thing will happen in Iraq. The terrorist have stated as much themselves.

It's not just Bagdad. The mainstream media wants you to think it is though. The insurgents (who are being provided by Al Queida) are all through out the country.
The majority of Iraqi's are embracing the new government, and are actually very grateful to the U.S.- even in Bagdad.
