What hardware would you go with. Anything that will cost $100 or more should be counted, and if you can, tell what kind of pc it would be, graphics intense, processor heavy, etc.

$1,500 is a good chunk of money and will build a great multi-purpose computer. I would build a PC that could edit photo/video, play the newest games, and pretty anything else as the two tasks just mentioned require more power than pretty much anything else.

Intel is supposed to have the Q6600 Core 2 quad (4) core for $250-266 on the 22nd. So that is definitely the chip to get.

$250 - Intel Q6600 quad core
$130 - SLi P35 chipset motherboard
$100 - Seasonic, Silverstone, FSP, etc. level powersupply
$160 - 4gb of performance / gaming RAM
$240 - 3 x 320gb Seagate SATA 7200rpm hard drives
$110 - Lian Li full brushed aluminum case
$60 - 2 x DVD-RW burners
$350 - Nvidia 8800gts 640mb video card
$50 - sound card
$50 - Arctic Silver thermal compound, upgrade fans, hard drive coolers, etc.

This PC would do anything very well. It's about as much as you could spend without being considered wastefull. If you were just a hardcore gamer you could lose one of the hardrives and jump to an 8800GTX.

I would get the core 2 duo 2.4 ghz, with either a ATI Radion HD2900 or an NVIDIA 8800 graphics card, 2 gigs of crucial ballistix ddr2 800 ram, a 700w + power supply and whatever the latest mobo from ASUS is. and i would probably bite the bullet and get vista for it. and a SATA hard drive over 300 gigs

thats the main stuff besides peripherals

When I had the chance to get a new pc. I had it customized to my needs. I wanted a pc that could handle as many games as I could stomach playing, and thats a lot. Also, I wanted it to be fast. I also listen to a lot of music so I wanted to have it sound the best possible. I went with Dell, with a LARGE flat screen, an awesome subwoofer. It cost me a little more but it was well worth every penny.

Intel Core2Duo 2ghz or better

Dvd Burner

Nvidia 7600GT or better (preferably better :D )

Asus Striker extreme mobo (but that might blow the budget lol)

and as big a hdd as i could get with what is left

oh and a case with liquid cooling... but as i dont have $1500 i guess i can only dream :)
