The white residue is most likely a bacterial disease called mouth fungus or columnaris. It often starts at the mouth and spreads from there and is usually fatal if not treated quickly. Maracyn or Maracyn TC should clear that up within 7 days, but ich medication or Maroxy won't treat it at all.

No CountryGirl, the only time i'm getting mad is while somebody sticks a Betta pair in a 2 gallon to reproduce, then is going to mattress, and is provided in right here thinking why the female is wrongly harm day after immediately. What? i'm hoping you will end feeling undesirable for the reason which you have been incredibly cautious in each thing (different than one area which i gets to). The properly water is positive, and dealt with besides, it particularly is stable. And no, a vase is not extra effective than a 2.5 gallon. As many in right here say, the Betta could stay yet no longer thrive in a vase. together as BettaRevive is an excellant drugs it particularly is incredibly in easy terms for the mildest of problems. For those it particularly is super. What i've got confidence occurred grow to be to procure a Betta (the 1st one) that had an incredibly virulent rigidity of fungus. i've got in no way seen one that can kill in 2 days or maybe 5! Fungus is incredibly contagious! So it persisted to stay on your tank, contaminated the 2nd Betta, then killed it too. the only thank you to handle it incredibly is bleach. each thing, each hose, the tank, clear out casing, decor, each thing must be soaked in bleach water 10-20% bleach to water. Then each thing must be rinsed, then rinsed back, then rinsed back! Then each thing allowed to absolutely dry. Throw away the clear out cartridge itself (positioned a clean new one in) and any stay plant life you have had in there. Then get a clean Betta, from a distinctive shop, if possible. (in the adventure that your no longer already acquainted with the Nitrogen Cycle and New Tank Syndrome you will ought to get to grips with it)

Sounds to me like the water quality might not be too good. Did you just start the tank? I would recommend buying a pH or ammonia testing kit to test the water to make sure it is okay for the fish. Also, though you can put female bettas together with other females, just be careful, because they still can fight with each other. I have had two females and they did fight. If I didn't have a divider, they would have killed each other. I don't know if that is a factor in your situation, but just keep an eye on them. Honestly, it sounds like your water quality. If you have a nearby petstore, you can bring in a sample of the water and they can test it for you and give you advice from there:-) Good luck!

I agree with Magic Man it sounds like columnaris. Go with the meds he recommends. If you don't already have salt in the water you can add about a tablespoon per of aquarium salt 5 gallons of water. Your bettas are brackish fish and can handle a bit of salt in their water. It will help replace electrolytes in their body and bacteria also has a little trouble growing in salty conditions. Good luck!
