Still not enough information to pinpoint it. "Southern hemisphere" means Australia, Antarctica, southern Africa, South America, or an island. "River" rules out Antarctica. "Mountains" combined with "snow" rules out a lot of Africa, although you could go with Mount Kilimanjaro. "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" was a movie with Gregory Peck. Australia has some mountains that are occasionally snowy; there's an Australian movie called "The Man from Snowy River". The Andes in South America are a possibility; a movie that comes to mind is "In Search of the Castaways" with Hayley Mills. It included a memorable scene with our heroes sledding down the Andes on a huge block of ice, but I don't recall a river in the movie. Finally, islands don't usually have high mountains on them, but New Zealand's South Island was the location for the "Lord of the Rings" movies, with lots of mountains, snow, and rivers in them.

I would hazard a guess that quite a few place names have been used in movies.
