If you have a hand-held device, then you probably won't ever use the infrared, however you can connect to other electronic devices. Infrared usually doesn't go that fast and must be in line of sight with the other device. Infrared is usually used as a means to transfer a few files from one device to another. Remote controls also use infrared. With the creation of Blue Tooth, infrared has become nearly obsolete.

Blue Tooth is a technology that allows many different types of devices to communicate with each other using radio frequencies. Blue Tooth technology was designed as way that almost any device, including printers, head-sets, keyboards, mice and many others to communicate wirelessly. The devices usually need to be within 10 feet of each other although the range varies by the device, and they don't need to be in line of sight.

Wireless connection for mobiles. Bluetooth is better than infrared. It is more secure, and more stable, Also it can be over longer distances compared to infrared.
Beware of the risks though. Any such connection from untrusted sources can bring virus. Also Bluetooth should not be kept on for long. It drains the battery.

Blue tooth and Infra red are wireless communication devices. U can use that for transferring files from one device to another. for example: if u want to transfer a file from the mobile phone to pc (or vice versa), just install the blue tooth device in ur system and switch on the blue tooth connection ur mobile device, both of them will be connected and u can transfer files in between them.

Bluetooth and infrared are wireless ways to send data via your cell phone. You can send songs, pictures, games, etc. If you have a bluetooth jaba thing for your computer you can even send music and pictures and stuff from your computer to your phone. It's awesome:) If you know someone else who has it on their phone you can get them to send you their stuff as long as it isn't locked. You can also use a bluetooth hands free device with it. You just have to be within 30 feet of your phone.
