i am sure they are very angry with us.. we better be careful or they are going to haunt us by floating around our houses late at night rattling chains.

I prefer the term investigate as that the word hunting for me does have associations with killing things. I don't hunt deer, rabbit, ducks, or anything else but I do investigate ghosts. I suspect that ghosts (if intelligent surviving spirits) have the ability to show and not show themselves as they choose. Of course many theories suggest that ghosts are not intelligent beings but recordings, hallucinations, misidentifications, etc.
Secrets I pretty much think the world would be better off with out and I don't know any legal claims ghosts have to private property (lairs).
So, I think it might be useful to investigate the people that see ghosts (are their measurable personality traits in common?) and the environment they are seen in (for example does high altitude or low barometric pressure go along with more reported ghost sightings?)
I don't think pursuing knowledge of any field is something that people should avoid. Imagine the world believing that lightining is hurled by Gods because noone ever chose to study weather.

You are a good boy; it is an excellent and valid question. Though I do not believe ghosts have lairs.
If you keep in mind that we believe most ghost are the departed soul of a human; then what we are dealing with are (the departed soul of) human.
We can hurt them very simply by ignoring their emotional needs especially if they are upset and confused.
Imagine on moment you're aware of sitting at the computer eating your hotdog...the next, you're walking around talking to people trying to figure out why you're not at your computer...and nobody will answer you, they just ignore you.
You're not understanding that you choaked and died...then all of a sudden here come all these people with all this "stuff" yelling at you and telling you that "you're not real" or "you're a bastard show yourself" (this is why I stopped watching TAPS ) and you think they can see you and you think you're going to get help...but then they leave you.
Is this would you want to be treated?
The majority of "ghostly activity" is due to somebody who is asking for help or crying out because they don't know what happened to them...yet the majority of people who "investigate" do NOTHING to help.
I even tried joining one of those groups so that I would have a better chance at finding those in need...all the group did was eventually get pissed off because I was more worried about the spirits than I was about their damn data.
There are enough spirits out there that are more than willing to 'show off'; give you EVP and show up in pics...sometimes they're not showing off but neither do they care that you 'catch' them.
People just need to learn when to turn off the equipment and turn on the compassion once in a while.

How are we hurting the spirits? Some can hurt us but that is a 1 in 50 chance of that happening. Aren't we just looking for answers? Our group has a medium and a psychic in it to help guide the spirits to where they belong, and they also help them in whatever way they need help, whether it is contacting a family member, or giving them answers to help unlock the reason that they are still there vs going to the other side. Spirits some times send messages through EVP's or give signs that they are in distress. All we are basically doing is verifying their existence.

You should not hunt ghosts. They should not stay here, but some are bound and cannot leave. Yes , they are all different types and personality, and they are not animals, unless they ARE animals. I'm not going to say that they are not dangerous. I don't know, some may be scared...that they are ghosts.
I'm sure some ghosts would want the attention.

Oh, come on, be rational. Ghosts are exhibitionists. They live frustrated ghost-lives waiting for someone to come around and notice them. They love the attention. What does a ghost do anyway if it's not haunting somebody? It just floats around looking at its watch.

In my personal experience, they hunt me! However, due to the nature of the spirit- would you expect that they could sense our motives and not be frightened of us?

If you are a believer in the bible, then you know that it says there are"spirits" that walk the earth. As far as knowing if they mind if we hunt them, I'm not sure. Personally, I would hate to think that people, after they die, are trapped here on earth. :)

Sugar cane, oak trees, wombats, dogs, and giant pandas all belong to the category of beings for which there is known evidence.
The tooth fairy, Father Christmas, ghosts, vampires, fairies, evil spirits, poltergeists, and hobgoblins all belong to a category of fictional beings invented for the delight of children and some adults. There is no evidence for the existence of any of the items in this category.
