I heard horror stories that it really hurts. Please tell me it's not that bad.

If you have had a baby then not so much but it is the weirdest sensation.

You will feel uncomfortable for a moment and a very localised pain in your uterus but this isn't so bad. Insertion isn't so bad but immediately afterwards is bizarre you come out in what I can only describe as a flu type fever and you feel really dizzy. The nurse will gernerally get you to lie down for a bit. Do not drive yourself to the appointment I did and I spent and hour lying on the back seat of my car waiting to stop feeling faint.

Your first couple of periods afterwards can be really painful and a different type of pain than you will be used to more of a stabbing pain than a dull ache. It soon calms down and I have no regrets and I have had mine for over a year.

Everyone is different so you might have a completely different reaction but don't worry.

I have heard from patients at a GYN office I used to work in that it really isn't a pain but a small sense of discomfort until it's been properly fitted and it also depends on your pain tolerance. The IUD is soft and doesn't take but a few minutes to insert. Google pics for an IUD which should help to ease your worries. If you have concerns, the best person to guide you is your GYN. Make sure you know all the side effects of the IUD and the pill before making the decision.

No, it's not that bad. The best thing to do is to concentrate on your breathing for the few moments it takes to put it in. You should feel only a pinch, then it will be over.

Breathe in slowly to the count of 7, hold one second, then breathe out slowly to the count of 7.

You'll be finished in no time at all, it's really a quick procedure, and worth it for the ease of use and not having to worry!

Lets just say I would never do it again. The doctor told me it would be easy, painless and quick; the doctor lied. The first doctor couldn't get it in and had to call in another doctor to try, it took them more than 15 minutes and it really hurt. That's just my experience though, it doesn't mean it'll be the same for you. I think it's supposed to be easier for women who have given birth to children naturally. I've only had one child and he was delivered c-section.

Not bad at all! A very small pinch that lasts about 1 second. Very worth it, to not have to worry about pregnancy.

It's not nearly as painful as having an unwanted pregnancy or being in labor.
