I have hypothyroidism on the low end and I'm wanting something natural. I have taken several prescrip med's for this but none seem to work for me. I have researched and found something but the U.S. does not offer this; Thyroid-Thru (from China). I'm currently taking kelp along with other vitamins and watch what I eat. I haven't tried over the counter pills that's offered without a prescip. Does anyone know if these work?

The iodinized salts and foods were dead-on. But it can be hard to get enough in your diet once you're already deficient (i.e. encountering any problem with your thyroid; iodine is what keeps it balanced.)

I've been using an iodine supplement for about six months that is superb. It's from a company called Standard Process. Normally, I'd just say, "Go get an iodine supplement," period. But let me tell you why I prefer SP.

SP's products aren't synthetic. Everything comes from a natural source. And it's not just natural -- it's 100% organic. That means it's easier for your body to break down and use. Your body is more efficient and productive with food than with a chemical compound.

Oh! One more thing: when your body is so low in iodine, it really can't get enough. If you gradually increase how much you take, you can get up to about 10 SP pills a day and still have your body using everything you give it.

If you're interested in learning more about SP or the importance of iodine, a wonderful CD is available on each topic (and many more!) through my chiropractor's office. It's about $5 per CD. The content is basically a recording from his health-based radio show. It's very interesting stuff! His website is jackstockwell.com. Find the office phone number and give them a call. They ship things all over the world.

Hi... I recommend checking out Rock-Medicine. There is a chat group on Yahoo about it. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/rockmedicine/

It has been used and shared for 30 years now, yet not that many people know about it. Another website about it is www.pacific-crossroads.com

I have been using this method for over 10 years and have healed many things with it, including diabetes.

This is a wonderful method of healing from Mother Earth. I suspect you just want to find something that works!

I suggest that you look at the Pacific Crossroads site and consider following the process there. Master Blend, Cleanse, and the one for Thyroid.... this balances both Hypo and Hyper types . They are not expensive and they will last you forever, because that is the way Rock-Medicine works.

All the best in your search!

All seafood is good, shelled animals, etc.: iodized salt or natural seasalt, which I prefer because of balanced minerals; red potatoes and red onions have iodine. There are sea mineral liquid products like Sea Silver and FrequenSea that would be good. The endocrine (gland system) communicates with each other so important so seek balance, not just a symptom reduction according to Naturopaths.

I knew someone who was hyperthyroid and his doctor put him on steroids to gain weight. I personally was hyperthyroid and had radioactive iodine treatment and I started to feel better about 2 or 3 months after. I noticed I started gaining weight about 5 lbs every year. Now I am about 10 lbs over my recommended weight for my age and height but find it almost impossible to lose any weight.
Just make sure you get proper treatment as a thyroid problem is more delicate than what people think. Also a good doctor who listens to you really helps. Good luck.

The top 2 things that can cause thyroid problems are iodine deficiency and radiation exposure.
There isn't a lot we can do about radiation other than to avoid it, but there's certainly something that can be done about iodine deficiency. Not sure if reversing iodine deficiency is a permanent solution, but it's a good solution.

Below are some supplements that might help improve your thyroid health. Always remember to also include a good multivitamin supplement to make sure you are not deficient in any vitamins. Iodine -- You can increase your iodine intake through diet and kelp supplementation. Kelp is rich in iodine and is very affordable. I buy it in tablet form with 225 mcg. of iodine per tablet. I had low levels of iodine because I didn't like to salt my food. Now I use natural sea salt that doesn't have iodine in it and so I supplement with kelp tablets. There used to be plenty of iodine in vegetables and fruits but the soil is very iodine depleted in most areas today. Foods that contain iodine are yogurt, eggs, meat, fish and other seafood, radish, parsley, potatoes, oatmeal and bananas. Selenium -- Many people diagnosed with hypothyroidism were found to be selenium deficient. Selenium is required to convert the T4 thyroid hormone to the active T3 form. As an example, the selenium containing enzyme type-I-iodothyronine-deiodinase is important for the conversion of T4 to T3. So selenium deficiency can reduce the activity of the thyroid hormones. Tyrosine -- Tyrosine is an amino acid needed by the body to manufacture thyroid hormones from iodine. And so the use of tyrosine as a dietary supplement increases production of thyroid hormones. Thyroid Glandular -- Thyroid glandular supplements have been used since the beginning of thyroid treatment. Usually it is only sold through your practitioner or by prescription (like Armour) but there are some over-the-counter thyroid glandular supplements available. Bladderwrack -- Bladderwrack is a seaweed that is a rich source of iodine. Traditionally it has been used for weight loss and hypothyroidism. The low incidence of goiter in maritime people has been attributed to the iodine in bladderwrack. It also contains the minerals potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, etc. Bladderwrack is thought to stimulate the thyroid gland increasing metabolism. Dulse: A reddish and chewy seaweed that grows on rocks in the North Atlantic and Northwest Pacific oceans. It’s a plant rich in protein and is a great natural source of iodine. Dulse is a sea plant that helps support thyroid function naturally by providing the essential trace mineral, iodine. It also contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, C and calcium potassium, magnesium, iron, manganese, copper, chromium and zinc. Avena sativa: It comes from the wild oat plant and is used as a nerve tonic. It’s used in herbal remedies for anxiety, eczema, hypothyroidism and high cholesterol. Coleus forskohlii: Studies conducted in laboratories show that coleus stimulates metabolism. In a recent study, six women took 25 mg of coleus forskohlii twice a day for two months and at the end of the eight-week trial they had lost an average of ten pounds and reduced their percentage of body fat by almost 8 percent. What’s more, coleus has proven to increase thyroid hormone production and the release thereof.

If you want something natural just ask your doctor to switch you to Armour or Naturethroid. Because it has T1, T2, T3, and T4 it helps with many symptoms that the T4 meds don't seem to help with. Links below

I am on kelp too, but I did not start on it until I got my thyroid regulated with Armour. By the way, I was on Levoxyl before and it did nothing for me. With Armour, almost every symptom is gone

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland that sits low on the front of the neck. Your thyroid lies below your Adam’s apple, along the front of the windpipe. The thyroid has two side lobes, connected by a bridge (isthmus) in the middle. When the thyroid is its normal size, you’re unlikely to be able to feel it.
All types of hyperthyroidism are due to overproduction of thyroid hormones, but the condition can develop in several ways.
Thyroid hormone production can be suppressed or halted completely in these ways: https://tr.im/gLIxf
