I live in Ohio & just bought a boat. I mainly want it for fishing, but I got a good deal on a boat with a 115 HP motor & I figured it would be fun for other things too. Some of Ohio's best fishing lakes have 10 HP limits. Does that mean I have to completely remove my motor to use these lakes or can I just leave it off or say it's broken & just use my trolling motor?

Check with your Ohio DNR. In WV you just have to have the motor in the tilted up position, but if someone reports you falsely for running it, you could have big problems. Better safe than sorry. DNR has the official answer to your question.

I would just remove the 115 and paint 10 on it, then it be OK. If, it is questioned, just say it have 10 and you thought that mean it was 10 HP.
OK, I joke. What I would do is ask the Game and Fish commission. You may be able to use the boat with the trolling motor as long as you keep the engine up. Years ago a lake where I live had a 10 HP limit, as long as the person use the Trolling motor everything was OK, but, man if they caught you using that engine, they made you wish you never had a boat.
But, times change and they may not allow that now. Also, that lake has changed the HP limit and now people zooming around like a bunch of nuts. It funny when they hit a stump.

I don't know about Ohio but in Washington state you can have the big motor on the boat so long as you are not running it. As long as the motor your running is 10 hp or less I am betting your ok. Check with the fish and game dept.

Yep, That's exactly what it means....BTW, they really enforce those limits, you could end up getting your boat confiscated.
