The biggest problem I think you might find is that the cichlid pellets are larger than the betta pellets and the betta will have more difficulty eating them.

And also consider the size of the package you're buying. Bettas eat maybe 4-8 of the betta pellets a day. Fish foods lose thier vitamin content after about 6 months. How long will it take your betta to fishing a package of the cichlid pellets?

And compare the ingredients of the two yourself before you buy. Bettas are carnivores, so most of the ingredients for betta pellets are fish-based in a good quality food (the one I use has salmon, halibut, shrimp, kelp, and some vitamin and mineral additives). Cichlids have a more varied diet, and more of the ingredients will be plant based.

Even with the pellets, I also give the fish some frozen bloodworms and daphnia, plus live mosquito larvae for a better balance of nutrition.

Yes you may do this ONLY if you feed your betta other things as well for some nutritional variety such as freeze dried blood worms, Hikari brand micro wafers, freeze dried daphnia, mysis shrimp, and 'betta balls', the food that is made for bettas.

EDIT: Oh, and as copperhead pointed out these pellets may be a little big for him, however, they do come in small, medium, and large pellet sizes. If you don't have small than get some, but if you are going to do that than you might as well buy some betta pellets instead. If they are actually more expensive (I buy both and have never payed that close of attention to the difference) I know that it is not by much. Maybe a dollar or two at most but isn't it worth it to know that he is getting the best nutrition that he needs? Besides they really do last a long time anyway.

people who breed bettas additionally hatch brine shrimp from eggs to feed the toddlers, or have "infusoria" cultures that are crammed with micro organisms that the toddlers consume. you would be not likely to maintain them alive with overwhelmed pellets or flake foodstuff. from time to time a fry foodstuff could be created from egg yolk, seem up recipes on line. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it truly is a unfavorable replace for the right ingredients. i think of you will in all probability lose in basic terms about all those toddlers and could ought to make the difficulty to examine in the past you attempt back.
