As LithiumDeuteride mentioned, ethanol evaporates very quickly, so cigarettes out of the pack are unlikely to contain any ethanol.

However, ethanol IS produced in cigarette smoke, amongst the thousands and thousands of other byproducts from incomplete combustion of the cigarette.

A commonly quoted figure for the number of compounds in cigarette smoke is "around 4,000." (ethanol being one of them....)

Of course, this is only counting the compounds that have been identified *so far*; cigarette smoke is an unbelievably complex mixture. The real number may be much higher, considering any number of substances that only exist in very minute amounts, or those that are difficult to isolate and identify. Cigarette smoke may contain chemicals that are as yet unknown to science......

On the other hand, most of these compounds have little effect on the body; a few hundred are *known* to be seriously toxic or carcinogenic.(small comfort, that....)

The FDA recently compiled a list of 599 additives which it approved for use in cigarette manufacture. see here:
http://quitsmoking.about.com/cs/nicotineinhaler/a/cigingredients.htm
Note that all of these additives are commonly used in foods, drugs, and cosmetics; and are considered harmless to humans. What isn't known is how these additives are transformed by burning.....

It was revealed in the early 90's that some companies were deliberately adding "coumarin" and "safrole" to their cigarettes, as "flavorings." Both of these are known carcinogens.

If cigarette companies where legally required to list all their ingredients, like everybody else, there probably wouldn't be nearly enough room on the package!

Ok, I'm done ranting for now. Don't smoke!

Tobacco does not contain ethyl alcohol (the chemical in alcoholic drinks). Ethyl alcohol is a volatile liquid that evaporates quickly. By the time anyone smokes a cigarette, any alcohol that could possible be in it would have evaporated and blown away.
