So last month I was 3 weeks late, after several negative pregnancy tests, got my period and it was normal.
This month my period came on schedule, counting from the beginning of my late period last month, but I am in soooo much pain and it is very heavy. The pain is radiating from my lower abdomen to my lower back.

Has anyone ever had a similar experience?

I'm 29 and in good health.

This just could be from the fact that your last period was iregular. You might want to scheduale an appt. with your OB/GYN and have a physical done. Good luck!

It is possible that you had a miscarriage. The same thing happened to me many years ago. I was about a month late and had one negative test...when my period finally started, it was MUCH heavier than normal and it was more painful that usual (actually, it was the only period in my life that ever caused any pain). When I went to the doctor, he discovered the presence of hormones that indicated I was pregnant but that I had spontaneously aborted after a few weeks.

Having said that, I HIGHLY recommend that you go to your doctor TOMORROW if you still have either symptom. I ran the symptom checker at WebMD and "sharp pain in the abdomen" and "unusual heavy menstrual bleeding" were both listed as "call your doctor tomorrow conditions". An exceptionally heavy period combined with pain can indicate many possible conditions some of which could require immediate treatment to prevent future problems with your ability to conceive (or worse).

More importantly, if you develop any other symptoms tonight such as a high fever or bright red bleeding, go to the emergency room TONIGHT!
