I could do it but I have a 4 year old and would hope nothing like that would happen however, it would help me lose weight cause the food would go bad! That would be a good thing!!!

Let's put it this way, I could but wouldn't want to! We had a really bad storm come through where I live 2 years ago and our power went out and was out all around us. We were without power for 4 1/2 days, and it felt like forever. You never realize how many things run on electricity until you don't have it! Hope this helps. Good Luck!!

Don't wish this to happen, you wouldn't like it, especially when you live out in the country, have your own house and draw water from your well.
The guys with the generators are right, I've got a couple of them myself , a small one for temporary outages or instant lighting, a big one to run the whole house. The day that something like this could happen could be any day, you never know and keep in mind if the lights are out for a week you wouldn't be able to buy any gas either, so it's always good to be prepared for the worst.

I have done it and one should be prepared to live without power. It takes planning but you can live well. With the way things are going you may find it could be a necessity. Good question.

Well, it kind of depends. If my power went out for a week starting now, then i wouldn't be able to, I mean, all my food is in the fridge, and i am not really prepared. But you can live otherwise, if you've been notified. It would actually be kind of fun. A camping trip in the luxury of your own home!

Yes I have and I had my daughter and her husband and my grandson all with me. We were caught in a blizzard and there was no power anywhere in the area. We used a camping stove and oil lamps. We used snow to flush the bathroom. We had a small heater that ran off kerosene. We all mostly stayed in one room to keep the heat in that room. We were there for a week. I considered us lucky because many people in the area passed away at home mostly elderly folks alone and no one could get to them for rescue.

NO, but we have endured a few days, when power went off.
You need to have a few supplies laid in for such occasions.
Candles & matches (if there are no children around).
Else flashlights & batteries; we recently bought hand-cranked
LED flashlight & radio kit at a hunting supply store.
Charcoal or propane for the BBQ/Grill, only use outdoors.
Freezer chests to store perishable food, or plastic coolers.
Bottled drinking water, lots of dried & canned goods.

If you have a grill and hot dogs and hamburgers then you can make them. If you have a generator you can keep your refrigerator going so your food is good. You can always take your clothes to a laundry mat.
Or if none of those are possible stay at a hotel or a friends house.

I have the equipment to light and cook using fire. I have also purchased a generator in case of an emergency. Due to the many power outages that I experience in my area it became a priority to prevent freezer thaws and heat outages in the winter

Sure why not? I know how to cook over a open fire, and if it gets too hot, I just make my own air conditioner with a squirt bottle full of water and a breeze will do the trick. and it would be peaceful too. no noise being made by electronics and clocks and tv's and what ever else make noise when it s running.
