Free will is "freedom"... it is your choices in the world... your state of mind... God's gift to everyone... you response to situations... your actions... free will is whatever you want it to be in life. It is your free will to ask questions on this site... just an example.

P.S. I hope things are well with you D.W. take care...

Free will is what god gave you as a human being to do right and wrong. It's basically you having a Fully developed frontal lobe in your brain to think about the consequences of your actions.
A Free Will is something (I think you are asking about) that is not worth the time and energy you put into it. If you're looking to leave things to people, or have your wishes granted, you really should consider using either a certified Trust Attorney or legalzoom.com. Otherwise you may be leaving your loved ones with something the Probate Courts may overturn.

Free will is the free choosing of a response to a situation, verbal, physical, emotional, etc.

If you ask a bunch of small children if they would like to eat a slice of very very sour lemon most will say no. Try again, and offer them a dollar, or perhaps 25 cents.

Gradually, you may see an increase in the number of children accepting the challenge. That is an exercise in free will, and it statistics of it are probably randomly distributed.

I have never thought much about what free will meant but I now have a better understanding of what it means. I looked it up in my dictionary - The power or discretion to choose; free choice. The belief that man's choices ultimately are or can be voluntary, and not determined by external causes. Done of one's own accord; voluntary.

The ability to make a choice without any type of motivation or direction to do so. You've heard of action and reaction, you've heard of cause and effect. Freewill is the ability to have an effect without it being caused, or to react with out an action to react from.
If I'm playing rock/paper/scissors, and I pick rock for absolutely no reason, that is freewill, but if I pick it because I have a reason to believe my oponent will pick scissors, then it is fate.

what is the free will..."the' free will...? which free will do you speak of?

How I look at free will, as you do ask for our opinions.

As a catholic I had always believed that God had a plan for everyone and knew everything about us. (Thus including what we would do in our life time before it even happened)

So, at first I thought...well...God has a plan for all but it is up to us to look to him and look inside ourselves to find our calling and follow his plan.

BUT....what if we decide not to follow our calling? (as I was also taught that it was up to US to look towards god for our calling in life and could decide to ignore this calling)

Then this debunks the thought that God knows what we will do at all times in our life. He cannot give us a calling, give us a choice in following it, while all along knowing what we will do at all times of our life.

So, right now I believe that we have freewill to a point..
I believe that every action, thought and feeling comes from a previous action thought or feeling. So, our previous actions, and those around us, determine what we do next.

In a way this gives us freedom (in choosing how to react to these actions) but also serves as determination. If we are constantly doing things due to previous actions, thoughts...ect. then this limits number of choices.

so, i see as both freewill and determinism

You are born with a concience, this is instilled in you from GOD. You have the FREE WILL to choose what path you want to follow. (not trying to holy roll here) This doesn't even nessiccarily have to do with good or bad decisions, Free will is the decision itself.

It's the one you don't have to pay for!
Seriously, free will (to me, anyway) is a priviledge given to us from God. We have free will, and we also have the consequences. We're able to make our own decisions, and we really don't HAVE to answer to anyone.
