Maybe that’s why they always say that “Familiarity breeds contempt,” or even “too much of a good thing,”….
Like the songs you hear; play them often enough over the radio and you tend to get tired of them at one point or another.
But then, it couldn’t be true for other, more significant things, could it? Like love, or your children or even your hobbies.
I love spending time with my husband; I want it more and more each passing day. And I could never get enough of hugging my little baby daughter and smelling her sweet innocent scent every time I see her. And then I love reading. The more I read, the more I learn and gain.
So how could those things not get more special?
And then a great composer almost never got tired of churning out new songs to replace the ones before that everyone else got tired of….
So I guess it does depend on how significant or important those things are to you, to remain special or otherwise...

LESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
I used to ski every day, now that I can barely ever ski it is way more special.
I got sick so I have to be on a special diet. I am holding out for the perfect chocolate chip cookie. In six months I want to find one amazing chocolate chip cookie and have a little bit of it. I miss them, and when I could eat them I just thought they were good. For some reason I am now obsessed.
I don't have t.v. so when I watch television it is more special.
I can't do a lot of the activities I like anymore but they are more special to me, when I have the energy to do them I am really excited. Even if it's just riding my skateboard down the block. This makes skateboarding more special.
I'm not allowed coffee but when I sneak off and have a little cup (no sugar) it is really special.
I'm uncomfortable saying the word love too much. (that's me personally) I think love is proven with time, actions, and loyalty. However at a certain point and in certain relationships you can never say "I love you" too much, only if you really mean it.
There is a reason why English professors tell you to avoid cliches!

I think the more you do something special to you or someone else the more special it gets. Like I love rocky road icecream and eat it constantly. It is still to this day my favorite so I guess its not less special. However, love is thrown around to loosely if you say and mean it, it can become more special. Although if you do not mean and say it alot it could hurt someone. Yet again,(lol) if you really love someone and only say it a little bit but,at perfect times that might be the most valuable of all.

I see two important factors coming in to effect the answer
of this question: personal preference and personal
necessity. Obviously, we can't have too much of personal
necessity; more or less universally among all individuals.
In my opinion, personal preference is often a similar,
but more subtle and indirect, expression of personal
necessity. For example, our eating habits are likely
influenced by necessity of essential minerals and
nutrients. In other words, I might not eat "rocky road
ice cream" simply because I think it "tastes good",
but that it "tastes good" because it contains essential
minerals and nutrients which are required for healthy
maintenance of my body. Therefore, I might choose
to take a break from eating that particular food
for more substantial reasons than "I am sick of it",
"I am sick of it" because it contains minerals and
nutrients which I have an excess of within my body.
Essentially, eating habits aren't purely random, they
can be heavily influenced by the body's need for
ingredients that are inside of the foods even if we
might think we are eating the food because it
tastes good(which has its foundation within that
process described).

I once knew someone who didn't like to use the word love. He said that it's overused. He said that when he said it he really meant it & that it was more special because he didn't dole out that many. But he turned out to be pretty stingy with emotion in general. He didn't want to give that much because he didn't have that much to give...
But for me, if I love someone or something, I can't get enough. Saying I love you every day or several times a day doesn't make it less special. Doesn't diminish it. You can't have too much of a good thing. When I like something, I like it a lot. Whether it's my favourite ice cream or other favourite dish or my favourite show or my favourite person. I never get sick of them. I am a passionate person. I tend to be intense. I go for quality over quantity. There aren't many things or many people that I really love but those that I do get all of my love. I adore them.
To quote Shakespeare "my love is boundless as the sea, the more I give to thee the more I have for both are infinite..." (Juliet to Romeo...)
Or maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic love-junkie...

I think the more something is done the less special it becomes, unfortunately. Its a chemical thing. Sort of the cog and wheel affect. If a wheel is spinning and it gets hit my the same cog thing, then the apparatus gets worn down. I just read my own answer and starting laughing outloud--really. But I will submit. Maybe you will laugh , too. I was really trying to be serious. No disrespect.

When doing something often makes it more special, not less special. If as you say saying "I love, you" anyone would like to hear those words as often as you want to say it. I have not tasted Rocky road Ice cream, so, tomorrow when I go grocery shopping I am going to buy it, and I will tell you if it does taste good, I will know why you like it so much.

both. eating something everyday, or having something whenever you want it takes its rarity away, thus lessening its value. but when it comes to love, sometimes its fun to make rituals, like i know this couple who will share a kiss everytime they stop at an intersection, i like this very much, becuase it renews the feeling of passion they had when their love was fresh, its like a shower, most people take them everyday, and sometimes we take them for granted, but after a long day you want nothing more than a nice long warm shower or bath to soothe your muscles and mind. so i think that if you start a ritual such as a small kiss for whatever reason at the begining of a relationship that it is more special. see something like showering is something that we have done all our lives, and if we go a day without it then we instantly feel the urge to take one. but i think if all of a sudden you discover that you love ice cream and eat it constantly that you'll wear yourself out on the stuff. i sense that this stems from us being creatures of habit. when you turn something new and exciting into your routine, it becomes just that :routine aka boring. mixing it up is key

I will agree with Elizabeth, (maybe because my middle name is the same..lol). I love tacos, and I could eat them everyday I think...but after a while those tacos become mundane, bland and even tasteless. I would rather not eat anything. So I have delegated tacos to just one day a week, and I look forwards to it.
However, saying I love you, is not an animate object, it is something altruistic and something that one needs to hear everyday as often as they can. For it is like breathing, we can never get enough oxygen for with too little we die. And man needs to know that he is loved even if he doesn't recognize that need.

less special
u remembered me by the math teacher once said to us that for example when someone in the desert and very thirsty u give him a cup of water this makes him soo fine and this one will feel this cup of water as a river so if u give him a second cup he will feel that it is less than a river and so on till he become full and will not feel any cup of water u offer him again........
this mean that when u do something too much cuz u love it this may make it less spcial than it was from first
c u soon
