Now that Rickey Henderson is the Mets batting coach, does that affect his eligibility? When will he be eligible? I am guessing 2011?

Unless he gets added to the roster, and takes a swing, he will be eligibile in 2010. And yea first ballot HOF, for sure.

Henderson coaching will not affect his eligibility for the players' ballot.

He last played in a major league (look, this is how the Hall defines it; I know it sounds dumb) in 2003. Therefore he will be eligible for the 2009 writers' ballot (five year minimum plus the incidental turn of the calendar during the voting period).

I expect he will not be on the 2010 ballot, and in the good way.

No.

It would only affect his Hall of Fame eligibility if he was put on the 24 man roster to play. Coaching has no effect on his HOF status

Rickey's the Mets' Batting coach? It won't change his eligibility years, though, unless he starts playing again.

It is 5 years officially after you retire as a player. I used to work at the Baseball Hall of Fame!

He'll probably get in on his first ballot year!

No because he is not a player. He'll be eligible 5 years after he retired.

I don't think it does. Since he'd be going as a player. but it might. either way he's first ballot easy.
