Just unbend the basic shape enough that you see a shape come up.
Now work on that shape, till it comes out perfect.
If you work with normal paperclips you can use your fingers, but round nosed pliers and flat nosed pliers make it easier.
You can work flat, any outline you like, or go three dimensions. Use just one clip, or add new ones and build bigger.

There are loads of shapes you can bend paperclips into, and you can also used colored, plastic-covered paperclips or of course, all kinds of wire.
For loads of info on shaping wire (and paperclips), check out this page at my website:

One fun thing to do is to make a "note holder" from a wire shape... bend into a shape (spiral or other) where there's at least one place that overlaps... leave a stem of wire underneath so you can attach it to a base of some kind (wood, clay, etc.). Then the ovelapped area of wire can be used to hold a note or photo, etc., upright.
