I am an actress, and I am looking to move from Ohio to, well, anywhere but here. I guess you could say my heart is NOT in Ohio. Anyhow, I am looking for a place to move where I can get jobs acting on the side in addition to a job in my field [[it is unrelated]].
What states have great theater opportunities?

Many opportunities exist in every state with local theaters. However, Massachucets (Boston), Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), and New York (New York).

Seattle, NYC, and Salt Lake City have paid theater groups that I have attended. Of course, for movies, you know where you have to go but don't seem to want to go there. Vancouver, Canada, has quite a film industry; if you are truly adventurous, Australia is a great place, too.
I'm sure lots of other cities have opportunities but if you are doing it on the side, you need to first find a city that has a job in your unrelated field.

Every state in the USA has acting work, everyday of the week. You must do a little leg work to locate acting roles.
In Los Angeles and New York City, there are actor workshops you can join and meet agents to meet Casting Director and agents.
Every state and city in the USA has theater opportunities, they may not be what you want. Research that information to find something that fits your needs.

UMMM... Broadway.... That would be in New York City, in the state of New York. There is the largest live theatre community in this city. Everyone wants to be acting here. Everyone comes here who thinks that because we have a gazillion bad companies.

If acting is the "side" job, it doesn't much matter except I'd avoid LA and NYC and Chicago. Go where you can get the best job in your "field". In major markets you're going to be competing with people who eat, breathe and sleep their acting careers.

If you don't want to go to California, then I would suggest New York. Not much of a bigger stage than Broadway, and there are many TV shows and movies filmed in New York.

Stay in Ohio and work at La Comedia in Springboro. Or go to NYC.
