Best - To Kill a Mockingbird; And Then There Were None; Flowers for Algernon ... these are now some of my favorite books! =)

Runners-up (Runner-ups?) to Best - Romeo & Juliet; Julius Caesar; A Separate Peace; Catcher in the Rye; Twelve Angry Men

Worst - Backwater (by Joan Bauer, I think)... ugh, that book was horrid. I don't remember ANYONE liking it, even a little bit.

And then there are those books that are in the middle - I don't hate them, but I don't love them either... Tears of a Tiger; some book about the Titanic that I can't recall the title of. And of course, there's those books yet to be read... I'm only going to be a junior (in highschool) this year.

Since this is just about books for English I'd say the best was As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner which I read as a junior, and A Separate Peace by John Knowles would come in second from freshman year. The worst book was The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway from the same year. It had a pretty good ending, it was just the trip at sea with the fish that was so boring; it drove me crazy.

Actually I've just remembered THE worst book I've read for English. In 11th grade I had to read Lincoln's Greatest Speech: The Second Inaugural by Ronald White. It's all about rhetoric and things about the speech. I'm sure there are much better books my teacher could have picked out.

I discovered William Golding - Lord of the Flies - in English classes.

But Catch-22 by Joseph Heller was the standout.

Worst was whatever bit of Dickens was inflicted on me. For some reason I have never been able to finish anything by Dickens.

Best, To Kill a Mockingbird, (as a incoming sophomore, I haven't had to read a terrible book for English yet)
