A friend of mine is a pitcher on our HS's varsity baseball team. He recently got invited to a scouting camp. I was wondering...
*is that a big deal and/or big achievment?
*is it hard to get invited to these camps?
*is this a big oppurtunity?
*what goes on at these camps?
Im kinda clueless about this and when he told me I didnt know what to say because I don't know anything about them. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

It is a real accomplishment and he should be proud of himself. At the scouting camp representatives from the team that invited him will look at every aspect of his game and he will be asked to do a lot of things for them all in an effort to evaluate his talent. If he does well in the camp they will continue to monitor his progress and could, at some point, offer him a minor league contract or a free pass to college if it is college scouts looking at him. He must be a very good baseball player.

It is a big deal and a great opportunity.
The camp could be just for one team or could be a league wide combine camp with coaches from many teams.
What goes on... it's basically a tryout. Pitchers pitch, catchers catch. Players hit and field. They run. They might even take a written test.

Wish him luck, not a lot of players get invites. If he doesn't get invited back it's still a huge accomplishment. Probably means he could get a college scholarship.

I don't know but I think it would be. It means at least, that your friend has enough talent that they want to take a closer look at what he can do. It may not mean he's playing for the Sox, but it does mean the parties involved see him as talented. That is something.

Big deal as to get his foot in the door, but MANY MANY players who get invited usually never make it to the bigs, they usually quit or end up playing their entire career in miner leagues.

It's a very big deal. You should go up to him, give him a big sisterly hug, and tell him GREAT JOB!!!

Then tell him you believe in him, and pat him on the back and tell him to "break a leg" (means good luck!)
