I think the easiest way to insert symbols such as hearts is to open Word, click on Insert, choose Symbols from the drop down screen and the insert whatever symbol you want. Then all you have to do is copy and past the symbols from your document onto your answer. I like this method because you can choose from hundreds of symbols and it's a lot easier to remember than all of the key board strokes.

to make the hearts press "alt" and and the "3" button on the number keypad at the same time then let go
