p= -1

2007-07-12 15:02:26 · answer #1 · answered by Krystal J 4 · 1 1

11p + 16 = 2p + 7

Now we subtract 16 from each side to cancel out the +16 on the left side.

Solve for p

11p + 16 - 16 = 2p + 7 - 16
11p = 2p -9
11p - 2p = -9
9p = -9
p = -1

2007-07-12 22:07:03 · answer #2 · answered by Richard_CA 4 · 0 0

11p + 16 = 2p + 7
Subtract 2p + 16 from both sides:
9p = -9
Divide both sides by 9:
p = -1

Check your answer:
11(-1) + 16 = 2(-1) + 7
-11 + 16 = -2 + 7
5 = 5

Hey there!

Here's the answer.

11p+16=2p+7 --> Write the problem.
9p+16=7 --> Subtract 2p on both sides of the equation.
9p=-9 --> Subtract 16 on both sides of the equation.
p=-1 --> Divide 9 on both sides of the equation.

So the answer is p=-1.

Hope it helps!

11p + 16 = 2p + 7
11p + 16 -2p = 2p + 7 - 2p (subtract 2p from both sides)
9p + 16 = 7
9p + 16 - 16 = 7 - 16 (subtract 16 from both sides)
9p = -9
9p/9 = -9/9 (divide both sides by 9)
p = -1

2007-07-12 22:05:33 · answer #5 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

11p +16 = 2p + 7
Transpose
11p - 2p = 7 - 16
9p = -9
p = -9 / 9
p = -1

Just move everything around...do 11p-2p=7-16

So 9p=-9 and p=-1
If you plug -1 for p back in you'll see that both sides of the equation equal 5

2007-07-12 21:59:48 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

11p+16=2p+7
move the p's to one side and the whole numbers on the other one
11p-2p=7-16
9p= -9
then divide the whole number by the number multiplying the p
p=9/-9
gives you -1
11x-1 + 16 = 5
2x-1 + 7 = 5

that's not hard at all.
1. arrange all the "p" on left hand side and just the numbers on the right hand side. 11p - 2p = 7 - 16 when you change anything from one side to another, u must change signs, ie plus equals minus and vice versa
2. then 9p = -9 by addition
3. p must be -1

NB when there is no signs between 11 and p, it is multiplications

2007-07-12 22:01:27 · answer #9 · answered by Gaz T 5 · 0 0

11p + 16 = 2p + 7 [-16]
11p = 2p - 9 [-2p]
9p = -9 [/9]
p = -1

2007-07-12 22:00:14 · answer #10 · answered by Jay 4 · 0 0

11p - 2p + 16 = 7
9p + 16 = 7
9p = 7 - 16
9p = - 9
p = - 1
